Combining real-time pattern writing, sampling, and effects, the Korg ESX1 will find its place nicely in any DJ’s club or studio rig. This unit was designed to be hands on and easy to manipulate.
The ESX1 is equipped with 17 knobs for parameter selection and manipulation on the fly; whether it’s choosing any of the 16 effects types, adjusting the pitch, or dialing in some real tube warmth through the two 12AX7 valves. Along with the knobs and pads, there is an awesome ribbon arpeggiator which allows for the user to add some musicality to the manipulation process. Being able to tap and slide a finger along the ribbon means you can play this unit like an instrument, not just enter beats by pushing a button.
Through motion sequencing you can record part and effects moves, which can than be played back within that song. During playback you can solo parts, add effects, or change the selected instrument allowing the user to create a whole new pattern every time.
Although the ESX1 will fit well into a producer’s studio, this unit also shines for live performance. This is a hands on, on the fly, groove machine meant to be tweaked with spontaneous energy and creativity. Go get one!
