OK! I first got turned onto this amp by Ulf Wakenius, the guitar player for my friend, the late great Oscar Peterson. Then, another guitar friend and gear guru, Bob Gore (former clinician with Joe Pass and now German Speed Metal God), told me I had to have one! So I got one, tried it for myself, and then told Sweetwater that we had to have them to sell!
The beauty of this amp is that it sounds EXACTLY like the guitar (so really the tone is up to the guitar! Get a great guitar, btw!). I consider this amp like a great clean mic pre for my guitar – precisely what goes in the amp is precisely what comes out, only amplified.
In the interest of full disclosure, I don’t use the effects on the amp, nor the effects loop (hey, I’m an old man!), nor the recording output, but what I do use is the AMP (it has some great features but for my solo jazz gigs, I don’t even use reverb, just straight guitar timbre). It’s amazingly powerful and projects great into a room and records just GREAT (I might add – when recording you really want to capture all the great sound of this amp with a good condenser or ribbon mic). AND it’s only SIXTEEN POUNDS so even a geezer like me can carry it around without hernia potential! (told you I was old!).
Anyway this amp can’t be beat for clean, clear power per pound! Get one and you’ll fall in love with it, just like I did. Thanks Bob (and Ulf) and THANKS JazzKat!!!
