DVD-R

A type of DVD disc that is recordable. DVD-R is to DVD what CDR is to CD. These are distinct from other recordable DVD formats such as DVD-RAM and DVD-RW, both of which can be erased and reused. DVD-R is a WORM (Write Once Read Many) technology and an emerging standard for archiving data because the media is getting relatively cheap and holds about 4.7 gigabytes, with larger capacities looming in the future. DVD-R has also played a vital role in the emerging DVD authoring business.
