Abbreviation for Samplers per Second, an alternative method of denoting sample rates compared to the more generic Hz abbreviation. The S/s abbreviation is becoming more popular as we continue to make more references to sample rates in our everyday language. 48 kS/s tells how many digital samples happen in a second. 48 kHz tells how many cycles happen in a second. So long as a cycle is understood to be a sample it is effective communication, but S/s is more specific and keeps clear in a conversation when samples are being spoken of vs. when waveforms or some other periodic phenomena are being spoken of. Example:
48kS/s has a maximum frequency response of 24kHz.48kHz has a maximum frequency response of 24kHz. (?)
