A type of RAID system using striping to distribute data across multiple hard drives in round-robin fashion. This increases the speed and capacity of the system, as the data is being written in smaller chunks to multiple drives simultaneously, but does not provide data security. The loss of any single drive in the system will cause the loss of all the data stored on all the drives.
