A vacuum tube that is intended to be placed in the power amplification section of an electronic audio device, where it amplifies signals that have passed through the preamp section (and are at line level) up to speaker level. Among the most common preamp tubes are the 6V6, 6L6, EL-84, EL-34, and KT-66, which are used in everything from guitar amplifiers to power amplifiers.
