Down Tune

An instrument that has been tuned to pitches lower than concert pitch or standard tuning is said to be “down tuned.” This practice is especially prevalent with electric guitars used for certain types of heavy metal music, where the entire guitar’s tuning might be dropped as low as C# (C#-F#-B-E-G#-C#), C (C-F-Bb-Eb-G-C), B (B-E-A-D-G-B), or even A (A-D-G-C-F-A), or where certain strings may be dropped in pitch.
