Dynamics Processing

A broad category of effects processing types and devices that includes compressors, expanders, gating, de-essers, limiters, multiband compressors, and more. The defining factor is that dynamics processors operate when triggered by a signal or a signal level. They are not a “static,” in the sense that equalization is, for example. (“Static” meaning that the effect is applied to the signal to the same degree all of the time, regardless of level or any other dynamically varying factor.)
