Reflex

Short for “bass reflex.” A type of speaker cabinet design. Bass Reflex cabinets use an opening, or port, in the speaker cabinet to enhance bass frequencies. The idea is that the sound pressure generated by the back of the woofer (inside the cabinet) is routed out the port, where it is mixed with the sound coming from the front of the woofer. By careful design of port size and position, the amount of low frequencies and how low they extend can be greatly modified.
