From Rich F. comes the following addition to our comments (inSync TTOTD 6/4 and 6/23) on protecting speakers from damage:
"One thing you missed out on when matching speakers and amps is the last bastion of speaker defense: The fuse. Wiring up a fuse up in parallel SERIES (you can get the type with fuseholder and leads at any electronics store) with each speaker lead either coming out of your amp or in front of your speaker will help to save your tweeters. If your speakers are in soffits, then put the fuses off your amp, so you can get to them. Start with a low amp slo blo (1 amp) and increase amp rating only if these blow constantly. It saved my JBL’s when I patched a signal after the faders, directly into my amp and played a loud .WAV file."
