“What are blind transfers? How and when should I turn them off?”
We went ahead and answered the question of what are blind transfers in the WFTD above. They are generally enabled or disabled as part of the initial setup or formatting of the drive. Specifically this is a parameter that is stored in the driver the formatting software leaves on your drive that gives it instructions for how to interface with the CPU and/or SCSI controller.
The normal state for blind transfers is to be on. However you should turn them off when the device is not fast enough to keep up, has irregular timing with the SCSI controller, or when using third party CPU accelerators or other hardware that are incompatible with blind SCSI transfers. In general we’ve found they can be left on with most DAW systems utilizing standard controllers and drives. Each specific case can be different, however, so consult with the manufacturers of the hardware you are using if you are unsure whether to enable or disable this feature.
