As most of you who care probably know by now, the newest version of the Windows operating system, WindowsXP officially went on sale last week. Naturally questions about compatibility with this OS are starting to warm up quite a bit. It’s still too soon to really know how smoothly the transition is going to go for most people, but so far our tests have been very encouraging. Almost all of the hardware and software we’ve tested so far is basically working under XP. By ‘basically’ we mean we are able to get MIDI and or audio in and out of the system. In many cases it may be necessary for you to download an updated driver from the website of the hardware manufacturer. But let’s be clear. We’re not telling you to run right out and update your system to XP. If you have an operable system we suggest you stick with it as is for now. If you have a compelling reason to update your OS we suggest you use caution and make sure you can get back to where you were in case something important doesn’t work right. The good news is it looks like with a little common sense applied things should transition pretty smoothly.
