In response to our Tech Tip on using momentary switches to mute vocal microphones (see inSync 10/22/02), Sweetwater Sales Engineer David Klausner offers the following:
“The Grateful Dead used to use a mic muting scheme which involved using burglar alarm pressure sensors underneath the carpet they used to have on stage as on/off switches for the mics. Rather than having to think about stepping on a pedal to activate a mic, they would simply step up to the mic stand and the mute would be deactivated, but when they stepped away from the mic, it would be muted.”
