The learning curve for any new piece of software — be it an audio program or a spreadsheet — starts with the question, “How can I do this?” and eventually moves to, “How can I do this more efficiently?” This is when you start learning about shortcuts, or quick key combinations that allow you to accomplish tasks faster and usually without the use of the mouse or trackball.

The specific shortcuts that you need to know will depend on your own workflow — every Studio One user works in a slightly different way, and the shortcuts they depend on will vary. In any case, here are some common Studio One shortcuts you need to know.
| RECORDING SHORTCUTS | EDITING SHORTCUTS |
| Play — Return or Enter Record — * (on number pad) Stop — 0 (on number pad) All Notes Off — X Add Tracks — T Arm Tracks — R Group Selected Tracks — Command+G Insert Named Marker — Shift+Y |

Finally, for die-hard Pro Tools users, in the Studio One/Options/General/Keyboard Shortcuts (Mac OS X: Preferences/General/Keyboard Shortcuts) menu, you can see a heading called Keyboard Mapping Scheme. Here, you can select from keyboard maps for several DAWs, including Pro Tools; select a map; and Studio One recognizes and applies common key commands from that DAW.
