A surround format with two more channels than 5.1. It splits the surround and rear channel information into four channels: left and right surround, and left and right rear surround. 7.1 surround is used in movie theaters and for Blu-ray discs. DTS-HD Master Audio and Dolby TrueHD, the lossless Blu-ray sound formats, can contain up to eight channels of uncompressed LPCM audio at 24- or 16-bit, 96kHz or 48kHz.
