A speaker/amplification system where the incoming signal is split into separate high-, high mid-, low mid-, and low-frequency bands using a crossover. Each frequency band is then amplified separately and routed to a separate speaker (e.g., lows to a woofer, highs to a tweeter). This is designed to improve the efficiency of amplification and to enhance the clarity of the speakers by limiting the range of frequencies each must deal with.
