Evans EMAD
Since 2008, the Evans Externally Mounted Adjustable Damping system — EMAD for short — has proven a key ingredient in giving drummers a tight, controlled drum tone for the stage and studio. What began as a specialty bass drumhead has since grown to include an entire range of heads for bass drums and conversion kits.
Evans EMAD
According to Evans, the EMAD system “allows the drummer to tailor their sound between degrees of attack, sustain, and low end.” This level of customization is achieved through the use of removable foam Control Rings which rest against the batter head by way of an external plastic sleeve near the perimeter of the head. Drummers can choose the wider Control Ring for maximum control, the thinner ring for moderate control, or use the black containment sleeve alone for minimum control. Also available is the Evans EMAD resonant drumhead, which comes pre-muffled and features a 4-inch offset microphone port for easy mic access. Take it from players at Sweetwater: a set of Evans EMADs on your bass drum or conversion kick can dramatically overhaul your tone. Even lesser kick drums can sound massive miked up with the help of these specialty bass heads.
