Evans EMAD Clear Drumhead - 16 inch - Tom Hoop
Evans EMAD Clear Drumhead - 16 inch - Tom Hoop Reviews
Now you can bring the tone and response of an Evans EMAD Clear Bass batter head to your 16" floor tom conversion kick drum. The Evans TT16EMAD combines a 10-mil single ply of clear film with the EMAD (Externally Mounted Adjustable Damping) system to enhance punch and low-end power — especially from smaller kick drums. The EMAD system lets you adjust the attack and focus of your bass tone quickly, without having to detune tension rods. Evans’ Level 360 hoop technology maximizes tuning range and stability in the TT16EMAD, which means you can really bury the beater for those breakdowns without having to worry about re-tuning. Converted floor tom? Get the tone you’ve been searching for, with the 16" Evans TT16EMAD EMAD Clear Bass from Sweetwater.
Better than I expected!
I had a pretty good sound out of my 16" conversion tom but, it still sounded like a low pitched floor tom to me. Replacing the batter head with the Evans EMAD head was like turning on a switch. I chose the wider muffle ring and not only does it sound like a kick drum, it feels like one too! I highly recommend this product to anyone searching for that elusive small but, powerful kick sound!!
Worked until drummers mis hit
This sounded amazing at first, but our drummers often mishit and the plastic that holds the foam ring in place has cracked apart and can rattle/buzz unless taped. The head played in fairly quickly.
I would consider buying a similar product again with the expectation that it wouldn't last past 5 shows. I may consider using a coated head or a Big fat snare solution next time.
Punchy
Oh wow, this thing! I was trying to make a mini kick out of a floor tom and was glueing handmade dampining rings on normal tom heads, whatnot, and I couldn't get even close to a 'kick' sound. I thought I would try the EMAD 16 incher, which I use on my standard kick drum, but honestly I didn't think I would be able to get a little drum to sound like a real kick, but oh man, it sounds amazing. Rivals my big kick! Very punchy and surprisingly thick! A must have for tom/kick conversion.
Punch!!!!!
I purchased the EMAD to go on a floor tom I converted into a bass drum. I was worried the small bass drum wouldn't have much low end or punch. Well…the EMAD provides both! To me, it's the go to head for smaller bass drums. I'm very pleased!
Sounds Phat !!!
I use Evans EMAD Clear drumheads in a church setting on a DW. It gives it that super phat CCM sound. I love it !
EMAD makes life easier
EMAD drum heads are my preferred kick drum head. Overtones and ring and no match for the mighty foam rings included with this drum head. Yes, I am aware you can tune them out. But my time is precious. I am sure yours is as well. And every second I spent trying to fine tune a specific sound is one less second I am actually playing music. So for me it is a no brainer. Slap this head on and you are 90% of the way there! This was my first go around with a 16". I am not disappointed. Quality drum head, add a nice beater (vic firth med felt oval) and my Tama cocktail jam is thumping like a champ. As long as I am playing drums EMAD will be on my kick!
Great sound for floor tom conversion
I just converted 16" floor tom to a bass drum and didn't think the 2 ply batter gave me a good bass drum sound. Then I tried this Evans EMAD head and love the result. It has the low tone of a bass drum instead of a floor tom. I'm still experimenting with the tuning and muffle rings but overall I never dreamed a 16 tom could produce this good a bass drum sound. I don't have any muffling inside the drum or a ported resonant head. I want the drum to resonate as much as possible and the EMAD system provides all the tone control I need.
Highly recommend this head to any drummer converting a 16" floor tom. It's a great solution for getting a bass drum sound out of your tom.
This is THE option for tight modern sounding FT conversion.
I have regretted letting go of my 20" bass drum Japanese 1960's kit skinned with the 20" EMAD. This scratched that itch.
Tip: Pearl offers an inexpensive conversion kit that, combined with this EMAD, gets you a tight bop setup.
I paired it with a 13" piccolo snare and an extra hi hat stand I had on hand and we now have a great minimal bop kit next to our living room piano!
Do this instead of getting a junior kit for the kiddies, and definitely consider this set up if you are a gigging drummer. Great way to have a practice kit too.
