Reviews

Simply phenomenal for voiceover work
I purchased this primarily for commercial voiceover work and while I've definitely utilized it for that purpose, I found that it also works wonders for character reads as well. Sometimes, I'll put my booth ventilation system on 'low' and this mic can't pick it up - the clarity is fantastic.
The best!
I was using the Sennheiser MK4 large diaphragm condenser mic for voiceover, which is a great mic for the price. But, I needed something more to give me that edge.

The 416 is awesome! It's one of the most popular mics for voiceover these days, especially for commercials and promo. I've been using it close to a year now and I've booked voiceover gigs using it.

The OG!
You know what it is. If you got more dough you know where to go. If you're short on change it's a no brain! Big shoutout to the boy Clint at Sweetwater! Hook it up with a Shelford Channel though! Go Dodgers!
MKH 416 Is the Best Shotgun Mic
I love this shotgun mic. I've used in several situations from films, interviews, and music and it is magnificent! Super clean and clear, excellent parabolic distance, perfect for speaking voices. Industry standard for films, documentaries, and interview.

ITS THE CLASSIC!
LOOK, END OF THE DAY WE COULD ARGUE ABOUT WHICH SHOTGUN IS THE BEST. NOT EVERYONE HAS MONEY TO DROP ON A MKH 50 FOR INTERIOR OR MKH 60 FOR EXTERIOR OR SCHOEPS IF YOUR A RICH MAN! THIS ONE IS SOLID ENOUGH TO GET THE JOB DONE ESPECIALLY IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR'E DOING IN POST PRODUCTION. END OF THE DAY IF YOU HAVE THE EXTRA FUNDS TO INVEST INTO AN ALL AROUND SHOTGUN MICROPHONE TO GET DOWN AND DIRTY WITH IN THE TRENCHES, THIS IS THAT GUY. YEAH, HES THAT GUY PAL.

What Do Our In-house Gear Experts Think?

This microphone is the movie mic! The Sennheiser MKH 416 has been used on pretty much every major motion picture in recent memory. I own this microphone and have used it on countless productions. If you want the best microphone for capturing quality dialog at a distance, this is it!
Eric Taylor
After a decade of voiceover work, I have yet to meet a microphone that could match the flexibility the MKH416 offers me. With its low self-noise and incredibly pleasing proximity effect on my deeper voice, nothing I have recorded has sounded clearer and fuller to my ears or the ones of those who hire me for gigs. For videos and streaming, I can position the 416 out of frame and still get total consonant clarity and body. Even with my relatively minimal room treatment, the directionality of this microphone helps reject any unwanted noises and room sounds that may happen around me and lets my audience focus on what is most important.
