Acoustic-voiced Overdrive Pedal with Cab Simulation

Acoustic guitars and other direct-out acoustic instruments can be tricky to saturate. Traditional drive pedals tend to introduce unwanted overtones and aggressive feedback. Today, Sweetwater is pleased to welcome the Fender Smolder Acoustic OD to our product catalog: an all-original Fender saturation circuit targeted specifically at acoustic instrument piezo pickups. The Smolder's wide gain range supports subtle tone enhancement, gentle chordal breakup, and violin-like sustained leads. Onboard EQ and Tone controls voice this pedal to any acoustic instrument in your arsenal — guitar to mandolin — with a Level control to give even your dry acoustic tone a boost into the PA. Not only that, but onboard Blend (balances wet/dry signals) and Pickup Comp (smooths out quackiness commonly associated with piezo pickups) controls make the Smolder Acoustic OD pedal as practical as it is colorful. There's even onboard cabinet simulation to add depth to distorted parts. It's all housed in a stage-ready brushed aluminum chassis with LED-backlit knobs (switchable) for stage convenience and a classic amp jewel on/off LED for a touch of that classic Fender charm.

Durable, player-friendly design

When we ran the Smolder OD through its paces here at Sweetwater, we were impressed by its durable, player-friendly design. It all starts with a rugged yet lightweight, anodized aluminum chassis that's tailor-made for heavy stomping. LED-backlit knobs (switchable) make it child's play to see your settings on a dark stage. Swapping out batteries is a breeze, thanks to a patent-applied-for magnetically latched 9-volt battery door. Want an acoustic overdrive pedal that really delivers the goods? Look no further than the Smolder Acoustic OD pedal by Fender.

Note the Smolder Acoustic OD's magnetic battery door.

Reviews

Moulder Acoustic OD purchase
It's great! I play both acoustic and electric in a band. It's a logistical nightmare. Small stages and twice the gear required. This FX box allows an electric sound when desired and using an A+B box, I can switch between acoustic and electric in seconds. The sound is great and the box allows a great deal of flexibility.
Thanks!

A Great Overdrive Choice for Acoustic Guitars
Took me a little while to tweak the knobs into a good place, but I'm very happy with this pedal. I put off getting the Smolder for a long time because I was skeptical it would work. My guitar (a Yamaha travel-size) is dispiritingly susceptible to feedback (indeed, you may have noticed I have the pickup compression turned almost to maximum), but it works, and I think it sounds pretty darn good!

I'm not a very technical guitarist (this whole thing is just A-minor pentatonic; the proverbial "My First Guitar Scale") but I think it just goes to show how much fun there is to be had with this pedal even if you only have a few tools in your bag. Highly recommended.

Works great!
Don't know of anything quite like this if anyone's looking for overdrive or grit for an acoustic. Works great with the piezo pickup in my Seagull Entourage with Fishman PresysII preamp. I had been using a Tech21 Flyrig 5 v2 (for electric guitars) Plexi setting to try to get a good slide guitar sound, and it was ok, but this is very rich with quality sound and has good options for tweaking. Solidly built, from knobs to footswitch to casing. Very pleased with the sounds it can give, and it's not bad with a Telecaster, either. The lighting on the knobs is a nice touch, too!

Buy It.

This one does not. It's fantastic. For me, did exactly what I wanted: mild to semi-wild overdrive with precise blend and tone options. Love it.

Love love this pedal!
I'm a rhythm guitarist and primarily play acoustic guitar. Every now and then, I've wanted a "little punch" in choruses, bridges, etc. This pedal is perfect! I love it when you buy something and it's everything you wanted out of it. This is one of those things!

It’s impossible to imagine a world without Fender guitars, and if you’re like many of the guitarists at Sweetwater, then Fender not only made the first guitar you ever bought " they made the last one too! From building the first mass-produced solidbody electric guitars and basses in the 1950s to creating some of the most influential amplifier designs in history, it’s no wonder why Fender is one of the biggest names in the business. As one of the world’s largest Fender dealers, we have countless guitars, basses, amps, effects pedals, and accessories in stock and ready to ship, whenever you need them. We’re always getting our hands on their latest creations, and there’s nothing we love more than to tell our customers all about them!
