Flanger Effects Are Just the Beginning

Like all of their One Series pedals, there's a lot more to the Source Audio Mercury Flanger pedal than meets the eye. Right off the shelf, it offers three distinct flavors of flanger: smooth and subtle flanging, through-zero flanging, and highly resonant flanging. Where the magic happens is with Source Audio's Neuro Editor software, which takes you inside the pedal's powerful 56-bit Sigma DSP and allows you to fine-tune all sorts of parameters. Neuro also gives you access to more flanger engines, as well as phasers and choruses. And once you've created your ideal effects, you can save up to three of them on the Source Audio Mercury Flanger pedal for instant recall, without ever having to open the editor again.

True through-zero flanging

The original flanger effects were created by manipulating the speeds of two tape reels, and an interesting effect would be created when the two reels re-synced. This is referred to as through-zero flanging, and it's not an option usually found on flanger effects pedals — but you'll find it on the Mercury Flanger as one of the stock flanger types. As the cycle reaches its peak, you'll hear your sound collapse into itself. The other two stock flanger modes are a smooth and subtle Classic flanger and a highly resonant Shadow flanger.

Customize your tone with the Neuro Editor

You can make your Mercury Flanger pedal your does-it-all modulation effects box simply by using the free Neuro Editor. Connect the Mercury Flanger via USB to the Neuro Editor, and you'll have access to Source Audio’s free library of additional phaser, flanger, and chorus algorithms — each directly downloadable to the pedal. The Neuro App also offers an extended range of adjustable parameters that includes Feedback, Output Level, embeddable Tremolo, Parametric EQ, advanced signal routing, and much more.

Source Audio Mercury Flanger Pedal Features:

  • 3 distinctive flanger modes onboard, with more available via Neuro Editor software
  • Free Neuro Editor offers access to additional phaser, flanger, and chorus engines, plus deep parameter tweaking
  • Stock phaser types include Classic, Through-zero, and Shadow
  • Stereo I/O with multiple effects routing options
  • Switchable bypass modes — choose from buffered or true bypass
  • Expression control input can control up to 3 simultaneous parameters
  • Control rate remotely with Source Audio's Tap Tempo switch (sold separately)
  • MIDI controllable via Neuro Hub (sold separately)

Reviews

What a surprise!
I bought this as a flanger. I like a lot of swoosh, but also the the subtle ability of the Thru Zero setting. I recently did a studio session on Bass, and had it on, Thru Zero on for 11 out of 12 tracks.

I haven't had the need to tweak it. It's perfect for me, as is!

The Mercury Flanger is out of this world!!
Although I haven't played with this pedal all that much, I can honestly say it is awesome. Coupled with the Neuro app, you can really create any sound you like. From flanger to vibe to delays with reverb, it's all there. And you can make and save the presets in the app or up to 3 can be loaded on the pedal for immediate use. The app is very user-friendly. It took me less than a half hour to find, tweak and store 3 unique presets I liked. These guys have figured it out. I am seriously think about replacing some of my other pedals with ones from this company. They're very well thought out and will give you the most flexibility. Good job, Source Audio.
3 n1 for the price of one!
Not only does the pedal have 3 flanger modes but with their editing app you virtually have unlimited sound sculpting capabilities. And if that wasn't enough, you can also use their app to edit and assign settings from their "Gemini" chorus and "Lunar" phaser pedals to this one pedal, basically giving you a flanger, chorus, and phaser to choose from all in one pedal. The possibilities are limitless.

I gave it 4.5 stars because of two things...

1) It can be a bit daunting at first. It's definitely more than I will ever use on bass.
2) It can be a little noisy when running the app on my phone to the pedal while editing or programming sounds. But don't let that discourage you. It's super quiet when in actual playing use.

I have to give Source Audio credit for providing so much sound sculpting capability at a very fair price. Similar to TC's tone print technology in some ways, but more than that in others. And their pedals are built like tanks. I haven't tried to abuse mine, but it feels as solid as a rock.

I've also enjoyed the support I have gotten from Source Audio. One of their top guys is a commercial user at an online forum site I belong to. And we (forum members) are always getting free advice, tips, tricks, and help with using their gear. We also get an inside look at stuff they are working on that hasn't been released yet. They have some really cool stuff in the works.

I have to say, they are an impressive company, one that communicates regularly with their customers online, and one that has an impressive business model. It takes a lot to get Sweetwater to carry and sell your gear, and Source Audio met those requirements. So if Sweetwater sells their gear, you know they're worth taking a look at.

I bought my SA Mercury Flanger before Sweetwater started carrying Source Audio products so congrats to Source Audio for picking up Sweetwater as a retailer, and thank you to Sweetwater for carrying their product line. I will definitely buy more of their gear in the future.

Need Improvement
very little space to use it in Neuro app from source audio you can only have 6 or 7 presets since the new C4, Waves, Ventris have 127 presets to create; I found the mercury very expensive for what it is I prefer the Boss BF-3 Flanger Guitar, I feel like I lost! hopefully source audio can increase the space to create new presets with an update, well it has that you can add the Lunar Phaser presets to it and vice versa.
