Japanese-style MOSFET Distortion

The Danelectro Roebuck is a reimagining of a Japanese-made MOSFET distortion pedal from the 1990s. You can find the originals in the rigs of top Nashville session players, and for good reason — these pedals were one of the most versatile dirt boxes of their era. Want transparent grit? No problem. British-tinged grind? Yep. Screaming tubelike overdrive? You got it. This multifaceted distortion/overdrive stompbox includes a wide-ranging 3-band EQ, along with a 3-way clipping mode switch. Original MOSFET distortion pedals command über-high prices on the used market, and finding one in mint condition is a rarity. And when you take into account the Roebuck’s superior sonic flexibility, there’s no mistaking what a tremendous value it is. If you’ve thought about getting a vintage MOSFET distortion for your pedalboard, consider Danelectro’s Roebuck — it’s everything its predecessor was and more.

Generous controls yield endless sonic textures

Thanks to its generous array of controls, you can coax an endless array of sonic textures out of the Danelectro Roebuck. Lower the Dist and increase the Level for a sustaining boost. Increase the Dist and crank the Mid for sweet, green-sounding overdrive. Dime the Dist, tweak the Bass, Mid, and Treble to taste, and you’re in British lead channel territory. And with three clipping modes to choose from, you can achieve sounds with the Roebuck that the original MOSFET distortion couldn’t come close to. We’ve had a hard time keeping our hands off the Roebuck here at Sweetwater, and we’re confident that you’ll find its tone as tantalizing as we do. This super-flexible distortion pedal is destined for permanent residency on your pedalboard.

Danelectro Roebuck Distortion Pedal Features:

  • Reimagining of a Japanese-made MOSFET distortion pedal from the 1990s
  • The original pedal is a staple among Nashville session players
  • Generous control set produces a vast array of textures from sustaining boost to full-on distortion
  • 3-band EQ enables near-unlimited tone shaping
  • 3 clipping modes facilitate greater sonic flexibility than the vintage MOSFET distortion

Reviews

I love this pedal more than the Nobels Odr which I adore
I purchased the Danoelectro Roebuck and I am very happy I did. I use this with a Nobels ODr and the Vertex clean boost pedals and have purchased a pedal to route them parallel. I had an American made telecaster and went through various pickups including Fender noiseless and Seymour duncan Brad Paisley La Brea. I felt my neck pickup was woofy when I purchased the Roebuck it solved this problem. I finally went to getting my neck pu routed and placed a Seymour mini humbucker in the neck and the Jerry Donahue seymour pickup in the bridge this is the most amazing tele setup i have heard.
I totally recommend the Dano Roebuck , the ODR and the Vertez Boost on your pedal board it will make sweet love to your ears.

Very impressed
Most versatile overdrive I've played. I use as a heavy OD with a slight mid push. However this could function as a light transparent OD if desired. The Roebuck sounds great right out of the box and EQ is very effective for tone shaping. I can't say that with all 3-band EQ's I've tried.
She's The ONE!
I've been looking for a while now...tried all types of diode overdrives, all price levels, all brands. While I dearly love my Boss BD-2 Waza for its Kamakazie Krunch, I've been looking for something sweet, where I can go from clean (guitar volume on 6 or so...) to a mild overdriven, full bodied-but-clear, light overdrive (guitar volume on 9 or 10). Shouldn't be that hard, should it? Ok, so every guitar is different, every humbucker, every amp, every player. So I finally found this Danelectro Roebuck, MOSFET overdrive and my search is over (until I change guitars, or amps, or whatever...).
This thing works EXACTLY like I want an OD to work. EQ knobs at 12:00, Gain at 9:00, Volume at 12:00, toggle in the middle position. I leave it on all the time. It's sooooo sweet.... and when it hits the overdrive zone it doesn't get muddy like most of the other drives I've tried...it stays clean and clear with a bit of crunch. All my other overdrives get muddy, as if you've turned down the tone control on the guitar as you turn up the volume on the guitar. Not this Roebuck...it stays clear and crisp right into overdrive city. This Danelectro was born to CRUISE...top rolled down, windows down, your arm resting on the door rim, WayFarers on...wind blowing through your hair...

Disclaimer: I ain't no rocker...don't do metal...I play a PRS SE 24 or Standard Santana with the selector on the NECK pickup most of the time. And, seriously, ALL overdrives and distortions sound the same to me when they are in the chainsaw zone. If YOU can hear the difference, great. I sure can't. Many thanks to Charles here at Sweetwater for helping me in my quest for the holy grail!

Superb pedal. Very happy with it.
I use it as part of a multi-gain stage pedalboard that includes Greer Lightspeed, Nobles ODR, and Walrus Ages and a couple of clean boosts. This pedal is a real different sounding OD that very closely mimics the old highly sought after Mostortion pedal.

Stands up well on its own without any additional stages as well. Highly recommended.

Danelectro Roebuck Distortion Pedal
I am really liking this pedal for giving my clean Fender Tube Amps a little hair. I use it more as an overdrive than a distortion. The voicing is very nice, warm yet bright enough to keep my sound present while playing with the full band both live and for studio use. Very useful having separate Bass, Mid and Treble controls. When the Distortion is raised it will punch out a classic blues grit and sustain well. It also cleans up nicely when rolling the volume down.
