The Ultimate Sire for Gigging Bassists

For a manufacturer to partner with a bassist with more accolades and album credits than one can count, it's a necessity that the resulting instruments will handle the demands of touring musicians everywhere. Grammy-winning bassist Marcus Miller has entrusted Sire's instruments to deliver his signature sound for many years now, marking an incredible "seal of approval" for anyone seeking out a pro-level bass with world-tour potential. The Sire Marcus Miller M7 6-string Bass Guitar more than fulfills its promise of high-octane performance, sporting top-notch tonewoods throughout and an ear-pleasing set of electronics. Even better, the Marcus Miller M7 comes stock with rolled fingerboard edges; an active/passive toggle switch; and two toggle switches for series, split, and parallel pickup configurations — features that only add to its exquisite quality and unparalleled versatility. If you're a gigging musician looking for a formidable go-to instrument, the Sire Marcus Miller M7 6-string Bass Guitar is a first-class ticket to rock-solid performances night after night.

Resonant tonewood combo with plenty of boom

To deliver its promise of road-ready performance, Sire cut no corners in constructing the Marcus Miller M7. At its core sits a beefy alder body topped with striking flame maple, which pumps out plenty of low-end thunder and richness that will complement practically every genre and playing style. Bolted to the body is a sturdy and snappy 5-piece maple and mahogany neck, ensuring you'll be loud and proud with a fantastic clarity that will ring through in every note you play. Capping the neck is beautiful rosewood, a coveted fingerboard wood thanks to its silky-smooth texture and room-filling resonance. From head to heel, the Marcus Miller M7's woods deliver a stage-worthy sound that's sure to impress audiences and fellow players alike.

High-powered set of earth-shattering electronics

To handle the demands of its namesake, Sire equipped the Marcus Miller M7 with its own Marcus Pure-H Revolution Humbucker Set. With their robust, full-bodied sound, these pickups handle everything from forceful low-end punch to funky slaps and pops with ease. When paired with the Marcus Miller Heritage-3 preamp, your tonal possibilities become virtually limitless. You get complete coverage across all genres by simply turning the knobs to dial in your desired tone, something Sweetwater bassists thoroughly appreciate when juggling multiple projects. Another exceptional feature is the Marcus Miller M7's onboard toggle switches — one to go from active to passive modes on the fly, and another pair for switching between series, split, and parallel modes — a sweet cherry on the top of this impressive set of electronics.

Reviews

Lovely Bass Just need better quality switches.
The bass is lovely I love it a lot but the switches are poor quality two of my switches broke on the first two week of having it. I would recommend this bass a lot but need a better-quality switch.
It just wasn't the bass for me.
I've owned a variety of basses over the years. Most recently, I've played an Ibanez GSR206 for the last 2 years and have really come to love the way it feels and plays in my hands. I wanted to take a leap in quality and tone, and have been head over heels for the finish on the M7 for years now, and decided I'd take a chance on it. Tonally, it's a monster and has more flexibility than an Olympic gymnast. The pots are great, but the switches feel super flimsy and cheap.

The neck though, I just cant seem to get comfortable on it. I've gotten so used to and comfortable with the flatter-back that the SR is known for that the curvature of the M7 just feels meh to me. I was worried this might be a thing for me and conveyed this to my Sales Engineer and he told me "they're all pretty similar" and really had no insight to one bass vs another. No, they're not all pretty similar.

Additionally, and this has nothing to do with the M7 specifically, but I spent an extra $ for a setup which delayed this bass' shipment by about 4 days. The setup it arrived with... the action was set lower than a politian's morals and had fret buzz all unless I played like a cadaver. The intonation was fine, but Helen Keller could've done a better job on the action and truss setup. I will never spend another dime on a setup from SW.
Music background: Bass player since ~2001
