The Original Hanging Guitar Stand

Introduced in 1979, the Hamilton KB38B Classic Series Guitar Stand is often called “The Original” hanging guitar stand. Its suspension design that uses gravity to keep the guitar neck from warping has been replicated many times over, as have its other protective features such as body cushions and a safe height-adjustable headstock yoke hanger. It’s still selling well even after 35 years, and can still be found in studios and on tours worldwide. When you order the Hamilton KB38B Classic Series Guitar Stand from your Sweetwater Sales Engineer, you’re not just getting a great guitar stand: you’re getting a piece of music history.

Hamilton Classic Series Guitar Stand Features:

  • The “original” hanging guitar stand
  • Uses gravity to keep the guitar’s neck in tension and reduce the potential of warping
  • Safe headstock yoke hanger that’s height adjustable from 29 to 48 inches
  • Protective body cushions for your guitar to rest against
  • Available in a classic chrome or a black powder coated finish

Great Example Of Great Design

You can pay more for a guitar stand that has more moving parts that can break or malfunction. A lot of these competitor stands aren't pure hanging stands, so guitars with asymmetric bodies don't fit well in them. Or they have needlessly locking mechanisms that are finicky. With Hamilton's design, your guitar won't pop out unless you kick it upward. Gravity holds the guitar very securely.

One reviewer gave this stand a very low rating, claiming that it can tip over easily. I don't find that to be the case. The stand is adjustable at the base. If you set it to have a smaller triangle at the base, it is more likely to tip. If you set the base as wide as possible, I find it hard to believe it's in much of a position to tip.

The stand's build is sturdy and simple enough to last a lifetime easily. It's cheaper without being cheap. The black color is elegant, unlike the toy-yellow coloring of some other stands. If you have a nice-looking guitar, this stand presents it well without becoming part of the picture.

The hanger works well with standard 6-string guitars or 4-string basses. If you have more strings, the neck may be too wide to fit. I have some confidence that the rubberized touchpoints are safe for all finishes. For a little extra coddling, I nestle a microfiber cloth in the hanger to have contact with my guitar.

Lastly, for a full-sized sturdy guitar stand, it collapses nicely.

Still the best
I purchased several of these (chrome finish) back in the 90's and they're all still going strong. Two of them even survived Broadway and the rigors of a national tour.
I recently purchased one of the black ones, curious to see if they were still the same stable, solid stands that I've loved for years, or if they'd cut corners or cheaped out on the materials.
Happily, they're still great! No plastic parts (except for the knobs), just sturdy metal and soft rubber padding.
These stands are as good as it gets and in the black finish, even better, since they don't stand out in stage.
I plan to buy a few more myself and would enthusiastically recommend them to anyone seeking a stable, well made stand for their instrument.
Hamilton stand
Perfect for Flying V guitars, explorers etc. I've got 2 Vs and an explorer and I love them.
