Reviews

Exactly what I was hoping for
These strings are amazing and exactly what I was looking for and hoping for. I play multiple instruments but violin is one of my main instruments. I use Thomastik-Infeld strings on my violin. As a song-writer, I enjoy playing guitar, but my guitar playing style is fingerpicking and I love the sound of sliding the note up and down the neck of the guitar the way you can do on a violin when shifting. However, the typical wound guitar strings have that awful screech when sliding and also cause my fingers to get rough skin which then makes my violin sound screechy when I play it right after playing guitar. These strings feel just like violin strings. They don't rough up my fingers. They don't screech when I slide up and down the neck. And they sound and feel amazing for my fingerpicking style. So very very thankful to have found these strings.

Shocked at how good these are

In order for the main part of the review to make sense, I need to provide some context. I have a Martin D-28 that I love, but can't play because of arthritis. (I've been playing electric with low action and light strings.) I've had the guitar worked on by three different technicians in the hope of bringing the action down (including a neck reset), but nothing really worked. So I ordered these strings (flatwound 10s) in the forlorn hope that they might help a little.

I just put them on the D-28 and am amazed at the result. All of a sudden, I can fingerpick all the way up the neck again. In terms of playability, the strings are an amazing benefit, to the extent that I can play this guitar for the first time in 15 years. I assumed that there would be a corresponding and inversely proportionate degradation of tone, but that didn't happen -- the guitar still sounds amazing: strumming, fingerpicking or bluegrass flatpicking. In short, it sounds like a D-28, a loud one.

At over $ per set, the issue of value for cost has to be a consideration. I'm not rich, but, for me, these strings are worth every penny. In fact, the reason that I'm on Sweetwater writing this review is that I just ordered three more sets.

Thanks to Tomastik-Infeld -- these strings are incredible and I'm very grateful.

They play themselves
These strings are awesome. Ive never had flat wound strings for an acoustic guitar. These strings are easier to play than my classical nylon strings. They play themselves
Silky Goodness
These are the best acoustic guitar strings I've ever played, since they suit the soft jazz style and sound I strive for with an acoustic. They have a silky smooth feel and responsiveness that keeps me playing longer sessions. They are not bright and that's fine; I'd rather have a mellow tone anyway. And for TI strings these come at a great price.

Great all-around strings
Thomastik-Infeld strings run on the high side in terms of price, but IMHO their high quality and tone justifies the cost. I started using these flat wound strings during jazz sessions, but realized they were great in the context of other genres as well. The reason I say this is because they impart a "focused" sound while minimizing string noise. This is really helpful during recording, especially if you want a clear bell-like tone for lead or harmony. They aren't the strings I'd necessarily use if I want a raunchier sound, but in most other situations, they sound great.
