Effortless Enhancement for Ribbon and Dynamic Mics

Looking for an easy way to enhance the sound of your ribbon or dynamic microphone? The Triton Audio Kompressor is your turnkey solution. Powered by phantom power, this convenient in-line compressor latches directly onto your XLR-equipped microphone. Its intuitive one-knob design makes achieving the perfect sound effortless. Kompressor provides a 25dB gain boost, ensuring a cleaner signal with lower noise, greater sensitivity, and improved transient response. Additionally, it protects your delicate ribbon mics by isolating them from phantom power. Ideal for home studios, podcasts, and professional recording environments, the Triton Audio Kompressor is housed in a robust metal chassis with balanced XLR input and output.

Convenient in-line design

Thanks to its convenient in-line design, Kompressor is a breeze to use. It latches effortlessly onto any XLR-equipped microphone, or you can place it anywhere between your mic and preamplifier or console. Beyond that, Kompressor’s electronics are housed in a durable metal chassis with balanced I/O. Here at Sweetwater, we’ve found this compact in-line compressor to be rugged enough for home, studio, and stage alike.

Studio-quality compression and gain boost

The Triton Audio Kompressor provides a 25dB gain boost, which decreases as you apply more compression. Its one-knob design allows you to adjust the compression level from Less to More, with a vivid LED indicating the amount of gain reduction. The Kompressor can elevate a modest 57-style dynamic mic to a new level of performance, offering agile responsiveness over a wider frequency range and adding a studio-quality sheen to your dynamic, broadcast, and podcasting mics. It can apply subtle compression to lower-output microphones, while higher-output mics can trigger more pronounced effects. Additionally, the Kompressor reduces the impedance load on ribbon microphones, enhancing their transient response and extending their usable range — essential for capturing quiet sources.

Protects your fragile ribbon microphones

Have you ever fried a vintage ribbon mic with phantom power? If not, count yourself lucky — it’s a traumatic experience. Kompressor safeguards against this unfortunate situation. While it employs +48-volt phantom power to power its circuitry, it doesn’t pass phantom power to your microphones. It’s the ideal insurance policy for your fragile ribbon mics.

Triton Audio Kompressor Features:

  • In-line compressor driven by +48V phantom power
  • 1-knob design adjusts the compression level from Less to More
  • Vivid LED indicates the amount of gain reduction
  • Provides a 25dB gain boost, which decreases as more compression is applied
  • Yields a cleaner signal with lower noise, greater sensitivity, and improved transient response
  • Latches directly onto any XLR-equipped mic
  • Can also be placed anywhere between your mic and preamplifier or console
  • Safeguards fragile ribbon mics against phantom power damage
  • Electronics are housed in a durable metal chassis with balanced I/O

My Shure 545S is ALIVE!!
I want a simple setup for my home demos. I would like a touch of compression, and the Triton Audio Kompressor In-line Compressor gives me a wide range of compression, perfect for my setup.
ALSO…Its built-in amplifier juices my already marvelous Shure 545S til it sounds like a high-dollar condenser!
Uncolored, the sound and response I'm used to, just WAY more headroom!
Thanks to Ashton for all his help over the years, and Sweetwater for the excellent deal!
Real HiFi sound
The best quality sound through not expensive microphone with this optical compressor I ever heard on analog mixer. The things optical compressor compresses all frequencies low mid and high, no coloring no frequency cuts and adding mids or heights. Real HiFi sound!

An excellent one-knob compressor
Before I describe the Kompressor, some backstory: A few years ago I bought the Cali76 Compact Deluxe FET compressor pedal from Origin Effects and fell in love. It's shocking transparent - one of those effects where you don't consciously notice it's on, but immediately miss it when it's off. Eventually I tried it with a mic and found it also excelled on vocals. Now I had a dilemma: keep pulling out my guitar pedal board every time I want to sing, or buy another one. It's pretty bulky and would take up space on my desk, and rackmount compressors seemed like overkill for tracking in.

Enter this guy. It's a one-knob FET-Opto that's almost as clear as the Cali76, but fits in my pocket! It's more-or-less living on the back of my Sennheiser e935, set about 50-75% of the way up depending on the song. At 100% it exhibits that compressor suck/pump where even spoken vocals lose way too much dynamic range to sound natural. But dial it back just a little and it's great. Since you don't have a proper ratio, threshold, attack, or release knob, it's not as transparent as the Cali76. My wife describes it as having an "NPR Radio" sound, where it's noticeably processed but fairly natural and pleasantly smooth at my settings. As far as use-cases, I've tested it mostly on folk and rock. I've also used it on Discord calls when gaming with friends. So nice to avoid a clipped mic when I get excited.

Anyway, I can see me buying more of these in the future. I dare you to find something smaller and clearer for cheaper.
pretty remarkable
i use this for both live performance (singing and public speaking) as well as in my home studio
i was surprised how nicely it works
only one thing prevents me from giving it full 5 stars
the knob that determines how much compression broke the first time i touched it!
kind of big letdown
was able to rig it somehow or other
but definitely a design flaw
it is rather flimsy
but it works nicely
i am seriously considering buying a 2nd one so that i have one for the road and one permanently in my studio
Music background: Beatles, 60s rock and folk rock, transcendental music, traditional music from india
Works as advertised
It works well and for my SM7B (inline along with my Avalon V5) at least - and it seems to have a bit more gain boost than my CloudLifter. I also like that you can select the amount of compression which has both a clearly audible effect of course as well as that visual "compressed" effect in the stems. My only issue is that the "less or more" knob is kinda cheap and falls out easily. When they first shipped this to me the knob was missing actually. I got a replacement quick and it had the knob this time but, as I said, it's kinda cheap, falls out easily, and I can see how it may have easily been lost in the original packing. I imagine that if this product gets more popular (and it probably will because it works well otherwise) they may address that problem - at least I think they should. Overall I recommend if you're looking for that gain boost to control noise or whatever else.
