Reviews

Dual Mono Splitter Unlike Its Bigger Brother
Hopefully this review will assist you in making the right choice. And maybe you'll understand and chuckle at why what's happening is happening, but I sure don't. Onward! This review is a comparison of this HOSA TRS to T & R down to two female 1/8" ins and the HOSA that splits but remains 1/4" female. For this 1/4" to two 1/8", it's great if you need to hear left channel content in both sides of a pair of headphones or then the right channel in both sides of a pair of headphones. If you want to send two foot switches (say a couple of BOSS FS-5Us), using the proper couplers and/or cables, i.e., 1/4" down to 1/8", may you have more luck than I did. I bought this HOSA product for the handy right angle and have enough cables and couplers to fill a coupler of drawers (yuck, yuck... pun intended), but dang-me if I wasn't unable to find the right combination of anything for the BOSS foot switches to work. So I decided to test this splitter in another situation. This is when I discovered that if you insert it into a headphones jack and plug in some cans, you'll be greeted with the right channel in both drivers or the left channel in both drivers, depending on where you plug in the headphones: the red casing (T) or the black casing (R). It gets better: I did this same thing with another HOSA, this time a 1/4" TRS to 1/4" T and R and the left channel signal or right channel signal would arrive at only the left side of the headphones, depending on where you plug in the headphones. How this is possible is clearly within the labyrinth of the soldering and copper channeling of the respective splitters, and though they are both labeled identically--the red casings on each are RING and the black casings on each are TIP while the only obvious difference is that one is a pair of 1/8" female whereas the other is a pair of 1/4" female, the two splitters do not produce the same results.
