Created in 1977, the Japanese GS-500 guitar and GR-500 synth were the world’s first true guitar synthesizer system (even predating MIDI), and used by forward-thinking guitarists such as Jeff Beck, Alex Lifeson from Rush, Mike Rutherford from Genesis, and others. Not only did UVI painstakingly restore and capture more than 30,000 samples from an original Japanese GS and GR-500 – they also added onboard stompbox and other effects (including an S550 Tape Echo) and made everything effortlessly switchable and customizable via a deep dual-layer architecture UI. The result is a fun, inspiring piece of music history that’s more accessible than ever.

The World’s First True Guitar Synthesizer
The GS-500 guitar and GR-500 synth were completely new and groundbreaking for their time; however, they were also expensive. UVI has made them more accessible than ever, by first restoring original units, and then capturing 30,409 hardware samples organized into 217 layers for immediate exploration and inspiration. Each one of the 300 presets is a breeze to edit thanks to PX Guitar Syn’s dual-layer architecture UI which lets you tweak guitar and synth sounds independently or together to get your bass, bells, pads, and more exactly how you want them. Creating your own custom patches is also just as effortless and fun.
Going beyond the originals
Capturing these historic instruments was a huge accomplishment, but UVI went even further by throwing in additional onboard effects, enabling you to get even more sounds than the originals! Classic fuzz, drive, and other stompbox effects are here, and there’s even a sampled S550 Tape Echo used for a gorgeous chorus section. There’s also a wealth of other tweakable parameters, such as ADSR amp envelopes, pitch shifters, LFO and step modulators, Sparkverb, and more. Again, customizing and blending all of these is a cinch thanks to PX Guitar Syn’s thoughtfully laid out UI.
