Abandoning convention
Most limiters buy accuracy with a look-ahead buffer, delaying the signal so the processor sees a peak coming and starts reducing gain before it arrives. It works, but it costs latency, and that pre-emptive gain reduction can take the edge off the transient it was protecting. The AL-1 hosts two unique limiting engines that abandon traditional look-ahead limiting in favor of a proprietary approach. Engine 1 limits through three digital algorithms that adapt to the context of your track, while Engine 2 uses a bespoke analog circuit created digitally, keeping limiting minimally invasive and preserving weight and articulation at extremely low latency. The second convention is the ceiling itself, which Naturl notes is typically set by a clipping or wave-shaping stage.
