Mobile Interface for Live and Studio Recording

Record anywhere with your Roland Rubix 24 USB audio interface, and get excellent sound. This mobile-ready, 2-in/4-out audio interface features a pair of low-noise preamps under a shielded metal chassis, providing you with superior sound quality from the start. It can run on USB bus power, and thanks to its tough metal body, you can simply toss your Rubix 24 into your laptop bag and hit the road. Alternatively, you can connect this fully class-compliant interface to your iPad. Other highlights include onboard dynamics processing hardware, a universal DI-style ground lift, MIDI I/O, switchable headphone monitor sources, and loopback recording. All told, the Rubix 24 is one of the most complete USB interfaces Sweetwater has seen.

Low-noise performance from the ground up

When it comes to fighting noise, the Rubix 24 starts off with a pair of microphone preamps that go hand in hand with its extensively shielded construction. These passive noise-reduction methods work great in most cases, but sometimes bad power can ruin your day. Roland addressed this issue by outfitting the Rubix 24 with a system-wide ground-lift switch, so you can cut off any hum coming from the power supply. That's something Sweetwater recording engineers have rarely, if ever, seen on an audio interface, and it's extremely useful for recording live sound.

Onboard dynamics save time and your tracks

Ask any seasoned engineer/producer, and they'll tell you that getting the best possible sound on the way in will save you hours of editing when it's time to mix. One of the easiest ways to improve your incoming audio is by adding a touch of compression on the front side to keep your levels smooth. That usually requires outboard compressors to pull off, but Roland equipped the Rubix 24 with a pair of 3-mode compressor/limiter circuits. These circuits include two gentle compression modes plus a more aggressive limiter, which you'll appreciate if you record live and have to worry about sudden spikes clipping your levels and ruining your tracks.

Cool bonus features offer added versatility

Between its class-compliant USB, robust design, and low-noise performance options, it's clear that Roland intended for the Rubix 24 to be a great mobile audio interface, but it has some tricks up its sleeve that also make it a wonderful start or addition to your home studio. First off, it comes with a 6-month membership to Roland Cloud Pro. MIDI I/O also adds compatibility with keyboards, controllers, and other devices. Selectable headphone output sources let you create a separate monitor mix for recording, which is a real bonus if you collaborate with other artists. Finally, there's loopback recording, which lets you record output sources from your computer. That's particularly handy for podcasting and similar applications.

Reviews

An ideal device as an iPad interface
Love how power is USB, but still separate from USB data, allowing for minimizing noise, and also meaning that the data source doesn't have to be responsible for delivering power. Using a USB battery to power the Rubix 24, and the data port connected to the iPad is a great solution that ensures continuous power, while ensuring cleaner data. I also have a competitively priced USB-C audio interface, which is one port only. This limits flexibility in options so it's relegated to my desktop. The Rubix 24 is versatile and flexible. It's just missing meters, oh and having to choose between limiters and compressors may be better than not option at all, but would still prefer being able to use both.
Yay!
I initially wrote a bad review of the Rubix 24 because start-up wasn't so great. After a weekend of dealing with these problems and researching, I found the biggest issue of mine was related to my computer not recognizing the Rubix driver on startup and not something due to the Rubix. Hallelujah!
As noted in the previous review, I picked the Rubix because I've had nothing but good experiences with Roland products, and those that I have are still functioning perfectly after 20+ years of constant use and abuse (shout out to my XP-50 again). Now that I can use the Rubix, I can say I'm extremely happy with my choice.
The sound is nice and clear and without any weird coloration and there appears to be no latency issues. It's all I could ask for. As an added bonus I have two compressors and limiter now! Yay!
The one thing that still bugs me is the fact that I have to power my unit with a separate 5v DC plug to avoid a weird high pitched squeal when trying to power the unit with the USB connection alone. If one is limited on USB connections this might be an issue.
Otherwise, I plan on using this baby for hopefully 20+ years!

Capable Interface
This unit works well once I had the drivers installed properly and using ASIO on windows 10.

The pros I care about:
1. Clean XLR inputs with no coloration on what you are recording
2. Clean 1/4 line inputs
3. Supports up to 192Khz sampling rate
4. separate volume control knob for line monitor (to my speakers) and headphones output. Makes life easier to quickly turn one down while using the other, and vice-versa.

Cons:
1. Clean Compressors on inputs but you can't change settings so you would need to use your ears to determine how it's interacting with the input audio and you adjust your input to match the compressor behavior. This will be hard for a non experienced person to do. Compressor mode 2 at mid threshold is usuable for overal mix compression/loudness.
2. No optical input option
3. No XLR line input or output (just microphone level input on the XLR. Line is 1/4)

If rolland can at least put an optical input and make the compressor more usuable by allowing for user's own settings versus prebuilt fixed setting, then this unit will be top of the pack

Roland Audio Drivers
Someone wrote here: "1) Installation: Every time I plug it in, I have to reinstall the drivers for my computer (running on Windows 10 Version 1709) for it to even begin to recognize Rubix's existence. This installation not only eats up precious time, it requires a computer shutdown and restart. By the time I'm ready to record, I'm already ticked off and annoyed. This is my major frustration and right now, is my reason for wanting to give a one star rating."

I am having a very similar problem with the Roland SuperUA, every time when a software that uses Roland's ASIO driver unexpectedly quits, I need to uninstall, restart and wait until the Roland Driver is re-installed again.
USB Connection, Dropout or No Input/Output Sound Issues
Keep dropout and no sound issues every few minutes when I heard music only. I didn't use software studio yet (cubase , studio one, or FL studio ) . I try a lot ways like instruction of Roland website troubleshooting but still can't find out what can I do. Better way return and find another one.

Simply put, modern electronic music wouldn't exist without Roland. Many of the electronic musicians here at Sweetwater cut our teeth on TR Rhythm machines and fondly remember programming our first TB-303s. We owe a good part of our careers to this amazing and innovative company. It's been fun to watch and grow right alongside Roland, as they've introduced wave after wave of revolutionary keyboards, digital pianos, and more. For example, Roland's V-Drum Kits continuously redefine the possibilities of electronic drums, beginning with SuperNATURAL technology to the latest Prismatic Sound Modeling. We're huge fans, and we'd love to tell you all about them. Whether you want a pocket-sized synth or a cutting-edge video mixer, if Roland makes it, then Sweetwater is 100% behind it.
