Guitar Recording Made Easy

Tailor-made for guitar players, the Blackstar Polar 2 is an audio interface designed to make the recording process easier. The Polar 2 includes two FET-based input channels, which are armed with 81-inspired microphone preamps and +48V phantom power. Moreover, you get per-channel Enhance switches that activate a clip-proof input setting, along with an amp-like feel for instruments and added air and clarity for microphones. The Polar 2 includes separate headphone and line-level outputs, which make achieving studio-quality monitoring easy. Complete with an excellent complementary software bundle, the Blackstar Polar 2 is a capable audio interface that effectively overcomes the typical challenges of guitar recording.

The right building blocks for great recordings

Creating professional-sounding recordings is easy when you have a Polar 2 in your studio. For starters, its high-headroom, FET-based inputs offer impressively low noise. Its 81-inspired preamps deliver a characterful flavor reminiscent of the legendary British consoles of yesteryear. The Polar 2 includes +48V phantom power for your condenser microphones. You also get separate headphone and line-level outputs, enabling you to make use of your studio monitors and headphones simultaneously. To top it off, the Polar 2 comes with an excellent free software bundle, including the St. James Suite plug-in, Ableton Live Lite, Relab LX480 Essentials, and Polar control software.

Problem-solving Enhance feature

Three common challenges that guitar-playing recordists often encounter are a lack of amp-like response, difficulty with setting input levels without clipping, and dull-sounding tracks. The Polar 2's per-channel Enhance switch takes these issues entirely out of the equation. Engaging this feature not only safeguards against clipping to provide a foolproof input setting, but it also allows your input to behave more like a tube amplifier when recording instruments and adds extra air and clarity when recording with a microphone. Here at Sweetwater, we've gotten our hands on pretty much every guitar recording solution out there, and we're blown away by how effectively the Polar 2 simplifies the recording process.

Reviews

Fantastic interface designed for Guitarists.
Super intuitive and the software bundle is an added bonus. The St. James plugin is worth the purchase in itself. POLAR has clearly been designed by recording guitar players who know the pinch points when recording guitar. I can now record my guitar parts with ease. Thanks to Sweetwater for the tech support and Blackstar for the design.
Sleek, simple, sonically pleasing
The Polar 2 paired with the St. James amp plug-in is raising the bar on simplicity without compromising tonal standards. Easy to use out of the box and fits into any workflow seamlessly. If you didn't know you needed a new USB interface, you do and it's called Polar 2 from Blackstar.

A Great Product Ruined by the Company Morons
While the interface itself is fine, it works well and sounds good, it is also very bulky and cumbersome compared to many other similar devices. But the real PITA is the software download process - first you have to scan the QR code on your phone for absolutely no rational reason - you need the software on your computer, so that idiotic step is a complete waste of time. Then you try the link on the web site but it returns an error page. And when you finally find a way to get halfway there, you have to create a profile first, but - wait for it! - that requires two-step verification, because "all cool companies do it, so we the Blackstar imbeciles have to do it too, yay!" So at that point I gave up completely and if the interface ever requires the moronic blurb-of-code software, I'll just get rid of it. It's a passable device on its best day and nothing about it justifies putting up with the idiots in that company.
