There’s a New MIDI Interface In Town

The Nektar MIDIFLEX4 is a 4-port MIDI interface with flexible routing, splitting, and merging. Unlike flimsy plastic interfaces, MIDIFLEX4’s roadworthy housing sports a sleek wrap-around aluminum cover for years of reliable service. Designed for flexibility, MIDIFLEX4 can easily be adapted to the ever-changing MIDI connection requirements of your growing studio or road rig. It can be used as a 1-in/3-out, 2-in/2-out or 4-out interface on macOS, Windows, and iOS.

Plug-and-play with macOS, Windows, and iOS

MIDIFLEX is USB class-compliant, so it’s plug-and-play, requiring no drivers. Most DAWs will recognize its ports automatically and make them immediately available in the track routing options. MIDIFLEX4 also automatically detects if a MIDI in or out is connected and displays the setting on its port MIDI indicators. For even more ports, you can use multiple MIDIFLEX4 units simultaneously.

Standalone operation

MIDIFLEX4 can also operate without being connected to a computer. In standalone mode, it works as a MIDI 2/1 merge or 1/3 split box. A dedicated button on the unit ensures easy switching between modes with instant visual feedback on its four MIDI LED indicators. MIDI interfaces have been around a long time, and we tend to take these little utilitarian devices for granted. The Nektar MIDIFLEX4, however, has caught the attention of MIDI musicians at Sweetwater — it’s sturdy, priced right, and has the flexibility to handle a range of MIDI configurations. And it looks cool!

Reviews

That was easy!

I have a 30 year old Roland A-30 keyboard that's been sitting in a closet for at least twenty years. I cleaned it up and searched online for a midi interface and found a few that were way too expensive to spend to hook up a keyboard that I wasn't certain would even work. I found this MIDIFLEX 4 on Sweetwater's site for about $. I've worked with plug and play equipment in the past that was anything but, but I figured that this was worth the gamble. When it arrived I plugged it into the A-30 then my Macbook Pro and fired up Reason to give it a try and was playing synths and pianos with no hassles in less than a minute. No drivers, no extra software just plug it in and rock!

Very useful part of my setup for beat making
I'm using it primarily right now to control my Alesis SR18 with AKAI MPD226 to control drums w/ the pads and my ARTURIA KETSTEP37 to control the bass line works great
Music background: Keyboard, Guitar and Electric Baritone for Ambient Baritone Guitar tracks
Bought this specifically for Linux
It did not disappoint. Right out of the box plugged it into a system running LMDE 5 Elsie base: Debian 11.2 bullseye and was able to restore the RAM banks of a 31 year old rack synthesizer via MIDI sysex from the command line. It can also act in stand alone mode as a MIDI thru box when needed.
Music background: Computers / syths since the 1970's
Finally updated my hardware
I purchased one of these because my 15 year old midi interface was becoming a bit temperamental on startup. For the money, you can't beat the midiflex 4. Works great with two external keyboards going to a Mac PowerBook that's running Mainstage 3.
Music background: Semi-professional musician
Simple, direct, and flawless
My Nektar MIDIFLEX4 arrived very quickly and I was able to plug and play to get work done that I was unable to do after a OS update and no driver update available. Using the built in MIDI in the Mac OS, it needs no driver and was totally effortless to use. All I needed was a one in and maybe three out MIDI interface. This unit is tiny, saving valuable desktop space, and really works like you expect it to and right away. Whew! Projects saved.
Music background: singer songwriter, career musician (42 years and going strong!)
