Shaping your sound with switchable transformers
Sweetwater’s engineers love the flexibility afforded by the MPDI-4’s switchable transformers, which can be set separately for each of the unit’s four channels. The 3-position Low/Hi/NoX switch selects the transformer mode for each of the unit’s inputs. Low mode is a low-impedance setting that works especially well for passive ribbon microphones, Hi mode adds transformer coloration to your dynamic or condenser mics, and NoX mode removes the input transformer entirely for transformerless, Class A character. Additionally, the Xfmr/Out switch activates each channel’s output transformer to add extra weight to your sound. Finally, each channel’s Load switch applies a 600-ohm load to the output, infusing your signal with additional harmonic coloration.

Loaded with features, each of the Undertone Audio MPDI-4’s four channels includes a -20dB input pad for taming extra-loud sound sources. Additionally, each channel features a -10dB pad that works in tandem with the output transformer to drop your level without compromising the sonic character of your signal. The MPDI-4 also houses dedicated 48-volt phantom power for each channel and a per-channel 180-degree polarity reverse feature.
