A Deluxe Version of a Gibson Classic

The Gibson Acoustic J-45 Deluxe acoustic-electric guitar sits at the top of Gibson's top-selling J-45 "The Workhorse" line, first introduced in 1942. This round-shoulder, dreadnought acoustic guitar is known for its full, balanced expression, warm bass, and excellent projection — much of which came through subtle changes to the bracing of its forefather, the J-35. The J-45 features all that rich tone, thanks to its sitka spruce top and rosewood body. And, for unbelievable onstage tone, there's an active LR Baggs pickup system installed on the Gibson Acoustic J-45 Deluxe.

Amazing sound onstage courtesy of LR Baggs VTC electronics

The J-45 Deluxe comes with LR Baggs's popular VTC acoustic pickup system, a popular choice among Sweetwater's acoustic guitarists. This system features a low-profile under-saddle transducer that's proven more stable and durable than many standard ribbon-type pickups. Its sleek and effective design removes unnecessary internal components to enhance the coupling between the pickup and the guitar and improve the sensitivity of the transducer for a robust, lively, and natural acoustic sound with excellent dynamics and delicate high end. Combined with an onboard preamplifier with an unobtrusive and removable volume control, mounted just inside the soundhole, the Element gives your J-45 Deluxe the amplification you need, with zero compromises for tone or convenience.

Round shoulder design offers tremendous playability

Descending from Gibson's large HG Hawaiian guitar in 1929, and the original "Jumbo," introduced in 1934, round shoulder dreadnoughts are steeped in Gibson tradition and lauded for their pure, rich tones, and impressive volume. With smooth lines, and a curvaceous shape, round-shouldered style guitars invite a close relationship with their respective guitarists: their body shape makes these guitars easier to hold and more comfortable to wrap your arms around.

Classic Gibson craftsmanship: professional quality you can rely on

Gibson's reputation as a fine guitar builder dates back to the late 1800s, and since those humble beginnings, Gibson Acoustic has been making some of the finest, most sought-out acoustic instruments on the planet. When you pick up a Gibson acoustic J-45, you know you're getting the finest tonewoods, quality hardware, and incredible attention to detail. Like all of the quality instruments they build, this Gibson Acoustic J-45 Deluxe was made to sound great and stand the test of time.

Gibson Acoustic J-45 Deluxe Acoustic-electric Guitar Features:

  • Sitka spruce top adds pluck and projection to your playing
  • Rosewood back and sides deliver tonal warmth
  • Mahogany neck for endless sustain
  • Traditional tortoiseshell pickguard for authentic J-45 looks

Reviews

Beautiful build and incredible tone!
This is my first Gibson Acoustic guitar and it's simply embarrassing I waited so long to purchase one. Now I've owned about 20 Gibson Electric guitars in my lifetime. Most were really great instruments and I still have the top 3 favorites of my former collection. However now that I'm transitioning into solo acoustic music, just like a great electric guitar, a fine acoustic guitar can inspire those creative juices that need a little push that only a great instrument like this can. And the J-45D is no exception.

Suffice to say that when it arrived I was just totally blown away in a manner that exceeded the way I felt when I found the vast majority of Gibson Electrics that I ever purchased. With the J-45D there was an immediate connection as soon as I opened the case. Thats because there was not a flaw to be found, it was so beautifully crafted, and the tone; well it was just full, articulate and musical and it fits perfectly with its own unique voice that sits tight between my Martin D-28 and Taylor 710 BCE. There's something about Sitka Spruce & Rosewood that just sounds perfect.

The fit & finish are gorgeous, the frets were finished evenly and the edges were nice and smooth. The intonation across the fretboard was completely even and the guitar responds so well dynamically to both finger picking, strumming with and without a pick, and even playing single note leads and arpeggios the guitar still rings out and sustains beautifully. Honestly the builder's at the Bozeman Acoustic Custom Shop build some incredible instruments.

A few last comments: You'll need a D.I. if you prefer to go straight into a PA or Acoustic Amp (I use the LR Baggs Venue which I highly recommend). But for recording I use a Shure SM 81 and an AKG C414 (IMO these mic's capture acoustic guitar tone in a manner that no DI can come close to getting).. That said the on-board LR Baggs VTC Acoustic under saddle pickup works nicely, the sound hole Volume & Tone control works well and the 9V battery is easy to get to after loosening a few strings. And finally, many thanks to my sales rep Cristian Good for once more finding me such an inspirational guitar and a piece of art I will treasure the rest of my life.

What a glorious guitar!
It's a beautiful instrument, and the sound is awesome. Deep, resonant, and loud.

love this guitar
I Love It! This may be the most beautiful and best sounding Gibson I have ever owned (although I had a sweet 60s J-200 that I wish I still had). Highly recommend this guitar and Greg Baum at Sweetwater!
