Martin’s All-mahogany Fingerpicking Powerhouse

Harkening back to the all-mahogany 15-series instruments of Martin’s golden age, the 00-15M is a fingerstyle machine that’s sure to thrill blues musicians, folk fingerpickers, and singer/songwriters seeking a darker, more intimate voice. Like its modern 15-series siblings and vintage forebearers, the all-solid-wood, Nazareth-made 00-15M forgoes visual extravagance to focus on what really matters: uncompromising Martin tone. This guitar’s 00-sized foundation is built upon a solid mahogany top and solid mahogany back and sides — a complete tonal counterpoint to standard spruce-topped acoustics that is favored for its warm, compressed, and balanced tone. Next, the rosewood-topped mahogany neck offers a fast feel in your hands thanks to the Modified Low Oval profile. To complete this guitar’s depression-era aesthetic, you get old-school open-back tuners, Diamond and Square abalone inlays, and a sleek satin finish from headstock to endpin. Ideal for blues fingerpickers, singer/songwriters, country strummers, or any guitarist eying a fresh new acoustic tonality to explore, Martin’s 00-15m rounds out your 6-string toolbox with a depth and warmth that only mahogany can provide.

All-solid, all-mahogany construction

Crafted in Nazareth, PA, Martin’s 15 series instruments are defined by their all-mahogany, all-solid-wood construction. It’s a tone all its own that forms a darker, mellow sonic alternative to the legions of spruce-topped 6-strings. And while all-mahogany guitars are well equipped for standard strumming duties, they’re especially favored by Sweetwater’s fingerpickers — especially when found in small-bodied form. Championed by scores of blues pickers, folk musicians, old-school country musicians, and singer/songwriters, all-mahogany guitars elevate your 6-string toolbox with a rich and moody tone you can’t get anywhere else.

Versatile 00-sized body shape

Just a touch smaller than a 000-sized Martin, the 00-15M homes in on rich and powerful fingerpicking tone. This guitar’s slim profile keeps bass frequencies in check, ensuring your every note rings out in perfect balance. Plus, smaller-bodied instruments like the 00-15M often boast a far more responsive feel than their big-bodied counterparts — a single plucked note on the 00-15M unlocks a shimmering wash of resonance. What’s more, while Martin’s 00 models traditionally feature a shorter 24.9-inch scale length, the 00-15M’s standard 25.4-inch scale length supplies you with a snappier tonality with enhanced punch and power.

Martin 15 series: all-mahogany tone since the 1930s

Martin’s 15 series has served as the working musician’s entry point into the company’s realm of American-made, all-solid-wood guitars since the mid-1930s, with a charmingly rustic take to boot. Even today, their binding-free construction, subdued appointments, and tone can’t help but recall the blues fingerpickers and folk heroes of the Depression era. Furthermore, Martin’s 15 series guitars wear a smooth, sleek satin finish that mimics the dulled-down sheen of a well-aged Martin — and it’s particularly pleasant on your hands when you’re navigating the fast-playing Modified Low Oval neck.

Martin 00-15M Features:

  • A modern classic of the Martin lineup, harkening back to the all-mahogany instruments of the 1930s and 1940s
  • Made in Nazareth, PA, with an all-solid-wood construction
  • Mahogany top, back, and sides deliver a darker, warmer spin on classic Martin tone
  • 00-size is perfectly suited towards folk and blues fingerpickers, with a rich and smoky sound that offers strummers a dryer, more intimate voice
  • Spruce X-bracing for a responsive, resonant feel in your hands
  • Fast-playing rosewood-topped mahogany neck in Martin’s Modified Low Oval profile

The Perfect Guitar
I ordered this guitar and waited 3 long months to receive it. This was no fault to Sweetwater and the wait was totally worth it. My sales engineer, Austin helped out tremendously throughout those months, providing updates along the way. Package arrived in about 4 days (Shipped to Texas, FEDEX). Right out of the box, the guitar was in perfect tune. This guitar looks, feels, and even smells amazing! A true piece of functioning art. The fretboard inlays boost the classiness to a whole new level. The neck is very comfortable and smooth. I highly recommend this product, and this company.

I can't put this thing down.

I purchased a Martin D18 a couple years ago, and it's an amazing guitar. But I suffer from guitar acquisition syndrome, and I recently found myself dreaming about another acoustic. In the search for something that was different than my spruce top dreadnought, I started looking into smaller body all mahogany acoustics. You cannot beat Martin's quality, sound and playability so after some research I ordered a Martin 0-10e Jason Isbell (made in the Mexico factory). Due to demand they were on backorder for a while, and I started researching the 00-15M guitars. Slightly larger, but still a "couch sized" acoustic, and made in the Nazareth PA factory. I ended up pulling the trigger on the 00-15M and received it a few weeks ago. I know guitars open up and sound sweeter over time, so I promised myself I wouldn't review it for a year. Well, I can't wait, I love this thing, I have to review it now. First off, it's gorgeous, in an old timey understated way. It's basic, not adorned with herringbone and mother of pearl, and has a dull satin finish, but it screams 1940 pre-war Martin. The grain in the mahogany is beautiful, and you can see the texture through the satin finish. Speaking of mahogany, yes, I sniff this thing every time I pick it up and it smells amazing. As far as the size of it goes, the 00 is still a guitar that is easy to cradle, lean over, and curl up on the couch with. That alone, will get it play time in situations when my beloved D-18 wouldn't be as comfortable to noodle on. The sound is definitely a lower volume than that of a dreadnought, which makes it a great compliment to its larger boomier cousin. It's easier to strum in a room full of people without drowning them out, and I can sing along at a lower volume vs fighting to sing above the volume of some of the larger guitars. It sounds beautiful, played with fingers or a pick. The biggest noticeable difference to me is the lack of bass thump in the top E string, but I really enjoy the tonal range the guitar has. It has a slightly smaller nut width than my other guitars but there was zero issue, and I find it very comfortable to play. The neck feels great, and I thought the setup was perfect from the factory. I don't foresee any adjustments needed to the nut, saddle, neck or strings. Here's the one warning I'll give with this guitar. The satin finish does seem much more sensitive to scratches than a glossy nitro finish. I noticed a couple small impressions on the upper bout on the back of the guitar where the zipper on my jacket rubbed into it. So, I've accepted that I will have to be a little more mindful with the finish on this guitar or be okay with it showing some battle scars over time. Honestly, I kind of like the idea of an older looking guitar showing some natural wear just as a classic pre-war Martin would. If you are thinking about this guitar, just get it. My beloved D-18 is probably a little jealous right now, as it's been sitting in the case. And I'll just add this note: If you ever find yourself near Nazareth PA, do yourself a favor and tour the Martin factory. You'll be a Martin convert once you walk those isles and experience the sights, sounds and smells of these guitars being made. Speaking of converts, I am sold on Sweetwater. I have made multiple purchases over the years and all of them have been first rate experiences. If I am going to buy an expensive instrument, sight unseen, Sweetwater is one of the few places I'd be willing to do it with. And Sean ONeil, my sales engineer, is so helpful whenever I have questions or need advice. He's first rate when it comes to customer service and part of the reason I keep coming back. So... that Martin 00-15M in your cart... just do yourself a favor and hit the "order now" button.

Beautiful Guitar, Beautiful Tone...
A big Thank You to Brad: for patiently working with me on this purchase and his helpful assistance.

My first Martin, and I love it!! I had Sweetwater do the Plek and install my preferred strings. She plays beautifully. The sound...the Tone....the gorgeous sustain and harmonic undertones: So sweet, so very melodic.

I can't keep my hands off this guitar. Even the scent of the Mahogany...every time I unzip that gig bag....ahhh...sweet love.

I will continue trying several of my favorite strings: for the purpose of experimentation. Want to hear what different strings add or subtract from this guitar. Needless to say: I'm a very happy camper, with the 00-15m.

Now I have no choice but to also add the Martin 000-15m to my stable of guitars, LoL. The 000'15m is next.

Thanks again, Brad.
So Epic That I Had to Buy TWO!
After years of playing hundreds of acoustic guitars, the Martin 00-15M is the only one that truly checks every box for me. Its tone is warm, beautiful, and resonant, yet the articulation is clear across the entire frequency spectrum...a testament to masterful craftsmanship. The comfortable feel, string spacing, scale length, smooth action, light weight, and other appointments are all meaningful bonuses.

I actually bought two 00-15Ms because I constantly switch between standard and DADGAD tunings and want to avoid the added stress on a single neck.

If you're choosing between the 00-15M and the 000-15M, know they sound VERY similar. I switched from the 000 to the 00 because the 000's slightly larger lower bout requires lifting your picking arm a bit higher, which could add subtle strain on your arm, shoulder or elbow...especially where the lower bout makes contact with your arm. If you don't rest your arm on the lower bout, though, this may not be an issue.

I bought these Martins months apart, yet the tonal consistency in their voices is flawless. Yes, the 00-15M is a legendary fingerstyle guitar...but it is equally stunning for strumming and flatpicking.

Hats off to Martin for delivering so much inspiration in every single note! Very well done!
Genuinely Impressed
I expected it to be smaller based on the videos I had seen. I am 5'10 and feel that my GS Mini is a bit small for my comfort and I did expect this guitar to be a similar size but I really loved the sound so I bought it. Once I got it in my hands, I realized it's not nearly as small as the GS Mini. I couldn't be happier with this guitar's sound. It is going to be my new number 1 acoustic for the foreseeable future. It is truly a work of art. I had played a Martin GPC and thought it was good but not as good as I had heard Martin guitars were. Now after playing this guitar I couldn't be happier with Martin's Craftsmanship. I hope to have this guitar for the rest of my life.
