Paul Gilbert Signature for the Up and Coming Guitarist

Young guitarists have heroes too. That's why Ibanez is releasing this Paul Gilbert signature PGMM31 short-scale electric guitar. Now players with smaller hands can enjoy the quirky and iconic looks of Gilbert's full-size models, while flying up and down their very own maple Ibanez neck. High-gain tones are on full display with a duo of Ibanez's Infinity humbucking pickups. And true to many of Gilbert's larger models, the PGMM31 boasts a hardtail bridge that keeps your tuning rock solid. Now there's a Paul Gilbert signature Ibanez for everyone.

Paul Gilbert's defining look

The striking F-hole paint job on the PGMM31 short-scale electric guitar harkens back to the shred-master's original Ibanez designs from the late 1980s. The graphic injects a tongue-in-cheek classiness to an otherwise aggressively constructed instrument. And judging by all the attention it gets in Sweetwater's Guitar Gallery, it's a look that has stood the test of time.

Short-scale construction

When guitarists look at a short-scale guitar, it's easy for us to assume they are for beginning guitarists and children. While the PGMM31 is definitely a fantastic option for players starting out on their 6-string journey, it will also be a unique addition to your guitar collection. Need a smaller instrument for travel? The PGMM31 fits the bill. Want a guitar with super-light action? Again, the PGMM31. You can even tune the guitar up to higher pitches for a new world of tones.

A voice that excels at high-gain speed

Humbucking pickups are the gold standard for solidbody electric guitars designed for high-gain applications. Their tight low end, immediate and aggressive attack, and fat midrange draw hard-rocking guitarists back time and time again. That's why Ibanez loaded a duo of Infinity humbuckers into the PGMM31 Paul Gilbert signature. These pickups boast ceramic magnets for a punchy tone that pushes your amplifier just right. It may be a smaller guitar, but the tone is absolutely massive.

Ibanez Paul Gilbert PGMM31 Short-scale Electric Guitar Features:

  • Short-scale electric guitar designed for Paul Gilbert
  • 22.2-inch scale length is ideal for smaller players and nailing unique tones
  • 2 Infinity humbuckers are great for high-gain aggression
  • Iconic F-hole graphic
  • Poplar body and maple neck offer a ringing tone with great sustain
  • Solid tuning all the way up the neck thanks to an adjustable hardtail bridge

Excellent value, poor (but fixable) soldering job
This is a five star guitar with a one star soldering job. Fortunately the soldering problem is easily fixed (at home if you can solder or by any competent local shop). The hardware is fine and we have *not* had problems with tuning some others mentioned (remember to stretch your new strings); the intonation was well adjusted from the factory. Some detail in case Ibanez reads these (...): When the guitar arrived it had a serious defect. A ground wire to the pickup selector switch was disconnected (see photos) it looks like someone was in a huge hurry, botched the job, then clipped the wire, then did another one, but didn't get it well attached. This is probably a rare problem (clearly there was significant QA since the intonation was very good, the finish is great, etc.), but in case you have this problem: the symptom is RF noise or "buzz" that goes away when you touch the strings, and, in this case, a muddy tone from the pickups -- this is entirely fixed by resoldering the ground -- the leads are long and everything is easily accessible, so that is good. Overall a great sounding and great looking short scale guitar -- we are very happy with it.

Perfect short scale
Due to 5 failed shoulder surgeries I had to sell my 5 and 6 string bass and get a short scale and done the same with guitar and this is the one I chose. Absolutely easy to play on my hands and perfect length for my shoulder
Music background: Been playing keyboard, drums, bass, and guitar for bands and at church for 40+ years
this thing is A W E S O M E
Better than expected.. it definitely doesn't feel like your average mikro.. and it plays remarkably well for a 3/4 sized guitar.

remember to stretch the strings.. I've had a lot of fun tuning in A standard, it holds tune really well at that tension, and feels more like a full sized 25.5" scale guitar tension wise.
Ibanez Paul Gibert short scale
I bought this guitar for the short-scale neck. I'm left-handed and i like short scales and headless, so i build my own guitars. I don't like to build necks tho, just the bodies. This will be my second build of a short-scale headless using an Ibanez mikro neck. I use the JCustom headless tremelo bridge and the resulting guitar is light, compact, and makes a great travel guitar.
Music background: 50+ years playing guitar (not a pro musician)
Awesome guitar
I love it beginners small hands. If you are looking for a great guitar this is definitely for you. One thing though you are crazy about having it perfect shape then you would want to change the tuners. Overall it is a awesome guitar.
