Massive-sounding Subharmonic Synth Box

The original ’90s Meatbox was a short-lived and misunderstood stomp box widely known for its incredible speaker-bursting synth-bass sound and an array of controls that some found confusing. Thankfully, DOD has reissued this true-bypass Meatbox Subharmonic Synth Pedal to showcase the pedal’s classic sonic glory with a much easier-to-navigate control layout. Bassists, guitarists, and synth fanatics: rejoice! It’s a perfect tool for filling up open space within your mix or just beefing up your tracks with some boomingly synthy presence — to any degree you see fit! Thanks to Octave, Output, Subharmonic, and Low Frequency control parameters, the Meatbox is ready to accompany any creative direction you send it in. For experimental rock to metal, progressive, and EDM, Sweetwater gearheads recommend checking out the DOD Meatbox Subharmonic Synth Pedal!

Effortlessly enhance your low end

Unlike its first iteration, the Meatbox now features simplified control labels. It starts at the top with two large knobs, Octave and Output let you determine how much lower octave effect you’d like to inject and your desired volume, respectively. Below, the Low control standardly expands the presence of the pedal’s low frequencies, while the Subharmonic control digs even deeper to the “Middle Earth” of bass tones. The Subharmonic control is a huge part of the pedal’s extended namesake, and has powered the Meatbox’s legacy for decades on the boards of countless bass guitarists. Are you ready to join the ranks and rattle some windows? We thought so!

Much more to explore

It doesn’t have to be all about effects, though. Use the DOD Meatbox as an interactive EQ to fine-tune your bass tone within just about any mix, onstage and in the recording studio. Using a TRS output Y-cable, you can split your output signal into wet and dry signals to unleash even greater sonic potential. And of course, while using the DOD Meatbox in conjunction with other pedals in your rig, there’s no telling where the sonic ceiling stands! Contact your Sweetwater Sales Engineer today to find out what DOD Meatbox has to offer your musical setup.

DOD Meatbox Subharmonic Synth Pedal Features:

  • Delivers the same massive wall of low-end insanity as the ’90s original
  • Great for bass guitars, extended-range guitars, and synths
  • Straightforward Octave, Output, Subharmonic, and Low-frequency controls
  • Split your output into wet and dry with a TRS cable
  • TRS Output (Tip = Octave+Sub, Ring = Dry, Sleeve = Ground)
  • Interactive EQ for tone sculpting
  • True bypass keeps your tone pure

Reviews

An absolute monster!!!
This is one of my all time favorite pedals for bass. I use this to play into dynamics with our sound, for bigger, fuller parts I turn this on for some serious punch. Very simple pedal to get wonderful results.
One of the Best of the Lamb Series
Of all the Lamb designed DODs this one was probably the one that confused the most people. This will rattle your bass frequencies, and it is not only useful for guitar or bass, but excellent in application on synths, drum machines. Run this in parallel to your signal and your world will be better.

Vegetarians need not apply, this one's for the carnivores!
If you want to "beef" up your sound (pun intended!) this is it! I personally took a risk with this pedal because I'm a guitar player. I scoured the web looking for anyone's opinion on how it works with a good old fashioned 6 string guitar and couldn't find anything. So I bought it anyway and here's what I found; the pedal activates with the 6, 5 and 4th (standard tuning E A D), so take that for what it's worth. I however, primarily use the Meat Box after my MXR Blue Box, when you have the Blue Box's Sub Octave signal going into the Meat Box it activates it perfectly and really expands your sound massively! Also, it thickens up my Arturia Mini & Micro Brute's sound greatly.
Meatbox
Loving this pedal. The bass is heavy but use the Octave knob like a wet dry knob to dial in some clean tone. It's a great sound and I just played around for hours with it upon unboxing it. I feel like these guys are going to increase in value as time goes by because DOD is using a batch of chips that were found to create these and when they're gone they're gone. The tracking I find to be very good. I've used the old Roland synth for bass and the Sonuus audio to midi and they were totally glitchy in comparison to the meatbox. I found the attack needed to play cleanly fairly easily. I am fingerpicking with a somewhat snappy style muting my notes before they decay to too low a volume for the pedal to recognize. It's entirely glitch free across the whole 4 string bass fretboard like this. Loving the pedal!
Yes
It's like a thick n pasty underlayment of carmel sprinkled beefcake. Response is excellent when running clean and still pretty good with distortion and playing chords but doesn't allow for sloppy tuning or the meat box gets confused as to what harmonic its trying to play. cranking up the sub range gets dangerous as this thing clearly puts out more than even my black widow 15 can safely handle via my peavey nitrobass( need a minimega sale!!!). Luckily they install dials to turn it back!
