Premium Components, Quality Craftsmanship, Impressive Value

The Sire Marcus Miller P5R 5-string bass is built to meet the performance needs of its world-renowned namesake — and Sire’s commitment to quality is evident right out of the box. First, your fretting hand will delight to the touch of the smooth rosewood fingerboard's rolled edges, which give the Marcus Miller P5R a smooth and comfortable feel you typically won’t find on basses in this class. Plug in, and you’ll experience powerful, punchy tone from its premium Marcus Vintage Fat-Precision Revolution pickup set. Once you experience its thunderous tone and eminent playability, you’ll understand what an impressive value the Sire Marcus Miller P5R truly is!

A neck that plays like a dream

Crafted from roasted hard maple with a rosewood fingerboard, the Sire Marcus Miller P5R’s neck enhances note definition and attack to perfectly complement the beefy sound of its alder body. Players at Sweetwater are amazed by its rolled fretboard edges, giving this bass a fast and smooth feel normally reserved for top-tier instruments. This type of attention to detail gives the Marcus Miller P5R a custom shop playability that belies its value-packed price.

Bone nut and steel bridge for superior tone from tip to tail

Superior components like a real bone nut and a steel bridge are more reasons why the Sire Marcus Miller P5R bass stands out in its class. Bone transmits vibrations better than inexpensive plastic nuts, giving you better note definition and attack. The same is true for its all-steel bridge, which enhances your tone beyond what alloy bridges can offer. Also, the bridge allows for both body-through and bridge-through string loading, giving you one more option for customizing your bass setup to your preferences.

Pickups loaded with pop and punch

Looking for the best qualities of both vintage and modern low-end tones? This instrument’s Marcus Vintage-Fat Precision Revolution split-coil pickup was specially voiced in conjunction with Marcus himself to deliver a thicker, higher output take on the bass world’s most time-tested pickup design. From smokey old-school thump to ultra-defined modern slap tones, the Marcus Vintage-Fat Precision Revolution pickup set is fine-tuned to tackle any low-frequency application with ease.

Sire Marcus Miller P5R 5-string Bass Guitar Features:

  • Bass with premium components built to meet the performance needs of Marcus Miller
  • Resonant and lightweight alder body
  • Roasted maple neck and rosewood fingerboard combine for rich, vibrant tones
  • Rolled fretboard edges create a fast, smooth playing experience

Reviews

Very nice bass

I was planning on getting a Fender Am Pro, but was put off by the truss rod adjustment. There is just no excuse for needing to remove (or even loosen) the neck to tweak the relief. I decided to believe the hype and my rep, and try out the Sire.

Oh, and I had it Plek'd and added LaBella flats. Just wonderful.

A word about Plek. I do my own setups and fretwork on all my guitars and basses. There is no way my amateur skills compare. They set it up according to my requested specs and as far as I can tell it's perfect. I also have an Epihnone ES-335 that Sweetwater Plek'd and likewise it is amazing. Yup, it's costly, but the results are worth it (especially considering what you'll likely pay for a basic setup.)

Things you may be thinking about:

There is no case. For me that is a positive as I don't want or need another case (especially a big hard one), and appreciate not having to pay for or store one. If you buy a separate case, you're still saving hundreds.

Limited color choices. Happily this was the color I wanted anyway. Not a lot of choices with big F either.

There is no Fender on the headstock. I used to kinda care. No more. Great quality, and (for me) better feel and playability. YMMV

Not U.S. made. I'll give you that one.

It's funny to think that if it wasn't for the stupid truss rod access, I would now have the Am Pro, would be out hundreds of dollars more, and would not have found this great bass.

Music background: An old, mediocre musician that started playing way too late in life.
Solid Bass
Sire's P5R 5-string is a very nice bass, especially for the money. Would definitely recommen.
