Built for a Thrash Metal Titan

David Ellefson’s muscular bass lines have powered Megadeth’s hard-hitting metal anthems throughout the band’s illustrious tenure. Likewise, his Signature Kelly Bird IV is a formidable beast that befits a thrash titan. EMG 35HZ humbuckers deliver a pronounced punch, laser-focused mids, and hyper-fast low-frequency response, while an active 3-band EQ supplies you with endless tone-sculpting options. You’ll appreciate the rock-solid stability afforded by the Signature David Ellefson Kelly Bird IV’s graphite-reinforced quartersawn maple neck, while your fingers slide effortlessly up and down a compound-radius fingerboard. A Jackson HiMass bridge exhibits rapid attack and robust sustain, while Jackson die-cast tuning machines ensure reliable tuning stability. Primed for the endgame, the Jackson X Series Signature David Ellefson Kelly Bird IV was tailor-made for fleet-fingered brutality.

Powerful passive ceramic EMG 35HZ humbuckers

The Signature David Ellefson Kelly Bird IV is a veritable sonic leviathan, thanks to its EMG 35HZ pickups. These passive bass humbuckers' ceramic and steel design provide you with smooth attack, level highs, and a low end that's as warm as it is focused. The strength of the 35HZ’s magnets enables you to retain articulation and clarity in extreme high-gain situation — an essential for rapid-fire thrash metal. The Signature David Ellefson Kelly Bird IV includes an active 3-band control for endless tone-sculpting options, plus separate neck and bridge volume controls. Plug this bass into your favorite amp and prepare yourself to create a symphony of low-end destruction.

Compound-radius fingerboard for ultimate playability

The Jackson X Series Signature David Ellefson Kelly Bird IV’s neck and fingerboard are spec'd to meet the demands of the technical player. The quartersawn maple neck boasts graphite reinforcement for a lifetime of rock-solid performance, while four heavy-duty bolts provide superior sound transmission from the neck to body. This bass’s 12-inch to 16-inch compound-radius fingerboard is rounder near the nut for holding down the groove. As you head up to the solo range of the instrument, the radius flattens out for easier runs and string bends.

Built with unbeatable Jackson quality

Jackson's X Series incorporates Jackson's three-plus decades of instrument-building expertise, and the Signature David Ellefson Kelly Bird IV is no exception. You get resonant tonewoods, high-output electronics, and a fast neck with a silky-smooth fingerboard — all at a price that belies its performance. Many guitarists and bassists at Sweetwater (and worldwide) are fiercely loyal Jackson players. Check out the David Ellefson Kelly Bird IV and you'll find out why.

Reviews

Great playing bass!
Added this beauty to my collection and I really like the way it sounds. Straight out of the box it was ready to go. The active EMGs give it a great tone with amazing sustain. It handles all my alternate tunings with ease. I see this in steady rotation of all my players! Just wish I could find a hardshell case to fit it comfortably. It barely fits my Coffin case.
Music background: Hard Rock, Cover Band
Super powered metal bass
Amazing looks, sounds super bright and punchy
Making me become a bass player.
I don't know. It just feels and sounds spectacular.
So many distiguishable tones can be made with it.
More than expected
Ridiculously versatile instrument.
really sick bass
The bass has an amazing sound, and there's several tone options you can have with the thing. I mean this 100% you can really style how you want your tone to sound, from thick to punchy. The only gripe I'd ever say with the thing is that (like all bird models) the location of the top strap button results in MAJOR neck dive. As much as the thing looks beautiful, if you don't hold your bass up naturally, this thing will feel really strange and awkward to play standing up. If you do wanna get it, I reckon buying a strap lock. Would I recommend it though? ABSOLUTELY!
