Vintage Rotating Speaker Royalty Reborn

Authentic to the originals but with a myriad of modern enhancements, the Leslie Heritage Model 122H keyboard amplifier combines the sound of both the legendary 122 and 142 Leslie models into a single cab. This 40-watt tube-powered keyboard amplifier’s 15-inch woofer and a high-compression horn driver harken back to the Leslie’s heyday, providing you with the same soulful swirl that’s all but perquisite on a Hammond organ. However, what really blew away Sweetwater’s Leslie Fanatics was the 122H’s switchable vintage-style preamp circuits that cover the sound of both the lauded 122-style and the 147-style preamps. Even the looks are pure vintage Leslie — just like the originals, the Heritage Model 122H is constructed with a masterfully built solid wood core cabinet that’s sure to serve as the visual centerpiece of any venue or studio.

Elegant solid wood core cabinet

The Leslie Heritage Model 122H’s enclosure brings a new meaning to the words speaker cabinet, sporting a masterfully built design that captures the spirit of old-world woodworking. In tribute to the original models, the Heritage Model 122H utilizes a solid wood core cabinet. It’s certainly an aesthetic upgrade, but many of the most discerning players argue that the fine timbers used to build the Leslie Heritage Model 122H significantly enhance the cab’s overall resonance and frequency response.

Two tube sounds in a single cab

While the original 122 may be the most renowned Leslie from the company’s vintage era, the later tube-based 147 boasted a sound distinct from its earlier tube-based brethren. In a first for Leslie, the Heritage Model 122H contains both styles of preamp circuit in a single cabinet. Looking for the smooth, warm sound of actual vacuum tubes? The 122-style preamp setting is sure to be your go-to. However, if you’re after a slightly cleaner and more defined tone, switch over to the tube-style 147-style preamp.

Vintage tone, modern features

Working with a vintage Leslie offers sonic rewards, but compatibility and sheer reliability can often be challenging, as is the case with all vintage gear maintenance. In comparison, the Leslie Heritage Model 122H gives you all the sonic benefits of the original, with full modernization of the original’s functions. This cab’s brushless DC servo motors are not impacted by power frequency or voltage fluctuations, and it’s highly resistant to unwanted RF problems. Plus, you can even adjust the rise, fall, and rotor speeds to your taste. Lastly, the modern 11-pin, 1/4-inch line input, and 4-pin input smooth over all the headache of trying to ensure compatibility between a vintage box and your modern instruments.

Leslie Heritage Model 122H Keyboard Amplifier with Rotating Speakers Features:

  • An authentic tribute to the Leslie’s golden age, with a beautiful solid wood core cabinet
  • Rotating 15-inch woofer and high-compression horn driver deliver the soulful, swirling sound that’s graced countless organ recordings
  • Switchable preamp circuits allow you to capture the true tube tone of both a legendary 122 and the later sound of a 147 model
  • Modernized brushless DC servo motor is all but immune to power frequency, RF, and voltage fluctuations
  • Fully adjustable rise, fall, and rotor speeds to your taste, in addition to independent control of the upper and lower rotors
  • Extensive I/O to pair with both vintage and modern instruments, including modern 11-pin jack, 1/4-inch line input jack, and 4-pin input for vintage Hammond organs
  • 1/4-inch jack for easy footpedal speed control
  • Aesthetics directly modeled after a vintage original, complete with the iconic Leslie decal and “Electro-Voice” plate

Reviews

Great Leslie
My background is that I owned a pristine 60's B-3 and Leslie 122 for a few years, then sold it to downsize. I also play a B-3/122 at church every week.

I use a Hammond SKX through a Neo Ventilator when I play live jazz gigs. I bought the Leslie 122H to keep at home and use for practicing with the SKX. It sounds fantastic.

I have also rented it out for a couple of jazz shows along with my Hammond SKX. It had more than enough power for those gigs, and sounded just as good as a vintage 122.

When I first received the 122H, there was a pretty nasty buzz that lasted for a few seconds when I powered it on. Hammond sent me a new amplifier with detailed instructions on how to swap it out. So that problem is taken care of.

Another slightly weird thing was that the bolts holding the woofer in place were pretty loose, which caused rattling. I probably could have called Hammond again to have them help me with it, but I just tightened them and the problem was fixed. I'd wager they worked their way loose during transport from the factory to Sweetwater to my home.

I've used it every day for about 7 or 8 months and I'm really happy with it.

Word to the wise: you can plug a half-moon switch into the 'footswitch' jack in the back and it will work to control the Leslie speed.
