Vocoderize Your MicroFreak!

Arturia's MicroFreak firmware V2.1 update adds an incredible 16-band vocoder to the already formidable synth, allowing you to tap into the robotic sounds of artists like Daft Punk, Zapp, and Giorgio Moroder. Take advantage of this cool new upgrade with the Arturia MicroFreak microphone. This gooseneck mic connects to the MicroFreak's existing TRRS jack, for simple plug-and-play operation. And it includes a second TRRS jack so you still have access to the headphone port. Additionally, it gives you the option of routing external audio — such as drums, guitar, bass, and more — through the MicroFreak to spice it up with the vocoder, lush analog filters, modulators, and effects. Ready to add more bounce to your MicroFreak? Then pick up Arturia's MicroFreak gooseneck add-on microphone from Sweetwater!

Arturia MicroFreak Gooseneck Microphone Vocoder Microphone Add-On Features:

  • Allows you to take advantage of MicroFreak's new vocoder capabilities
  • Connects through the existing TRRS jack for plug-and-play operation
  • Includes a second TRRS jack for headphones or for inputting external audio
  • Ergonomic and easy-to-position gooseneck design

Vocoder Mic Makes the Gen 1 MicroFreak as Competitive as the New One!
I pre-ordered one of these mics to use the Vocoder Function on the MicroFreak Mk1. I updated the firmware and then followed the directions from the Arturia Directions. Setup the mic:
1) Click UTILITY
2) Select MIC SETTINGS
3) Adjust MIC GAIN (in some cases as high as 40 dB but it depends on the preset sound you choose)
4) Turn Mic Detection ON (actually both settings here turned on

I then clicked Utility again and moved out of that mode to select my Vocoder Preset (note, these started at 210 as of Feb 2021). Then, press a key and voile! Pretty nifty little feature. Thanks to Sweetwater for carrying it and thanks for Arturia for updating older versions of their hardware. This little machine is a lot of fun and now can do even more!!
It works as advertised
Purchased for my standard version Microfreak. Adds the functions as the same as the vocoder version. Works great after the firmware updates.

Works as advertised
I ordered microphone for the Microfreak standard edition to add to the functions. Updated the firmware, followed some advice from youtube and to get it to work little effort. It really adds to have vocoder function.

A vocoder in your Microfreak? Yes. (But beware tall people).
This is an attachment for the non-vocoder edition Arturia Microfreak and it's essentially a gooseneck TRSS-microphone with a stereo jack for plugging in your headphones. I like how it fits and getting vocoder functionality in my Microfreak feels like a Christmas present. I just wish this thing was maybe a foot longer. You will also want to adjust the gain on your Arturia's mic settings to get it where you want it. Noise removal handles alright.
