Reviews

Excellent gear at a more than reasonable price!
Very usable product. Clear, lots of headroom and what a space saver. The only drawback for me is the headphone input is 1/8" and not 1/4". Not a big deal as most headphones made today have the 1/4" adapter but I do have and use phones that are older and don't have that ability. A simple adapter makes that problem go away.

Overall, a 5 out of 5!

Works as advertised, clear sound. Easy to use.
I needed multiple headphones off one mic for a podcast. Sweetwater got it to me in time. It was easy enough to hook up, the controls couldn't be simpler. The sound to each headphone was unaffected. So, all is OK. My only wish is that Zoom would have tougher enclosures. It seemed a bit fragile, easy to have something break. Otherwise, I recommend it.
Good but not great.
While I would recommend this--that recommendation is not without reservations.
Let me list the pros:
--Battery powered
--On/Off switch
--Mute switches for each channel
--Angled pitch of control surface
The fact that it is battery powered means it can be used for portable recording setups with units like the R8, R16, R20, or R24.
The on/off switch means one can switch it off to preserve battery life.
The angled pitch of the control surface makes it easier to read
Now to list the cons:
--box is constructed of plastic
--in/out jacks are 1/8 inch [3.5 mm] instead of 1/4" [7 mm]
--stereo mini-cable is only 2" long and not very sturdy.
Given the price Zoom is charging for this, one should at least expect metal construction, as well as a USB cable and power adapter. And although most headphones now come with 1/8" plugs, one will have to purchase an adapter to use with recorders having 1/4" headphone outputs.
Personally, if I was to choose between this unit, and less expensive units like the Behringer MicroAMP HA-400 or the Mackie HM-4, the only thing that gives this the edge is battery powered portability.
If Zoom were to drop its price on these by 50 percent, it would easily deserve a best in class ranking. As it is, the best reaction I can give this is "meh--it's okay."
