Saturation Software with Hardware Sound
While many plug-ins are modeled using component-by-component techniques, the Relab Development Relab Color Drive differs in its more holistic approach that treats the Relab 176 tube stage (I/O transformers, calibration bias, and 6BC8 variable-gain tube) as one cohesive integrated circuit. Simply put, when you adjust any control on the Color Drive, you’re not only changing that individual control but also subtly altering the behavior of the entire system. The result is a plug-in that behaves and sounds amazingly like a real piece of outboard gear, with similar musical harmonic coloration, smoothened transient responses, and subtle excitement that makes hardware saturation units so coveted. Sweetwater studio engineers also praise the Color Drive’s ability to let you “season” your production with both even- and odd-order harmonics by simply utilizing Output Coupling and/or adjusting the Calibration control. Finally, the Color Drive lets you select which frequencies get colored and how, thanks to its Tilt/High-shelf filters and Crossover control that enables routing of your low end around the drive circuit for maximum mix clarity.
