Beyond a Typical Delay Plug-in
While many delays have excellent-sounding wide ping-pongs and cavernous echoes, few excel at ultra-short delays for adding stereo width and depth to mono tracks. The latter scenario is precisely where the A/DA STD-1 Stereo Tapped Delay from Plugin Alliance and Brianworx shines. The A/DA STD-1 features six individual delay taps, each with unique ultra-short delay times and independent stereo routing. A Regeneration module feeds signal from taps one, three, or six back into the input, complete with an optional soft peak limiter and a high-cut filter to reduce frequency content from 10kHz to 900Hz. The A/DA STD-1 has a dual LFO circuit which allows you to tune the sweep rate of each delay tap, thus enabling very lush and dense chorus effects. Finally, the A/DA STD-1 includes a selectable noise control that simulates the noise floor of the original hardware unit.

The Hass Effect — adding an ultra-short delay to mono tracks to create a sort of doubling effect — is one of Sweetwater studio engineers’ favorite uses for delay. In the studio, many achieved this sound by duplicating mono tracks and offsetting delay times. On the other hand, guitarists such as Kirk Hammett and Allan Holdsworth often turned to the original hardware version of the A/DA STD-1 to implement this effect live. Thanks to the A/DA STD-1 Stereo Tapped Delay plug-in, you too can incorporate Hass Effect-style delays easier than ever before.
