Ian Thornley’s Dream Fuzz, Engineered by Suhr
Developed through a collaboration between Ian Thornley and Kevin Suhr, the Suhr Thornicus is among the most versatile stompboxes of its kind — and we’ve heard them all here at Sweetwater. Then again, what else would you expect from a fuzz box with the multitalented Big Wreck frontman’s name on it? Boasting two channels of mind-bending fuzz, the Thornicus features independent Fuzz and Octave sides, each with its own dedicated controls. The Fuzz side delivers thick, saturated sustain with warm, velvety breakup. The Octave side, on the other hand, incorporates an octave fuzz for added harmonic complexity. Each side’s passive Tone and Level knobs allow you to brighten or thicken your tone while also pushing the front end of your amp with just the right amount of output. Moreover, the Mids knobs enable you to dial in everything from mid-scooped grunge to presence-heavy articulation. Beyond that, the Thornicus features MIDI compatibility, allowing you to store and recall bypass states with ease. Assembled in the US, the Suhr Thornicus offers fuzz connoisseurs a truly refined option with all the tone-sculpting power you could ever ask for — it’s a veritable treasure trove of tasty fuzz tones.

Independent Fuzz and Octave channels for ultimate control
Originally conceived as a single fuzz circuit with a shared octave switch, the design evolved at lan Thornley’s request into a dual-channel fuzz pedal with independent Fuzz and Octave sides, each with its own dedicated tone-shaping controls. The result is an expertly engineered pedal that allows you to dial in each channel independently, putting everything from vintage-style saturation to harmonically rich octave tones firmly within your grasp. The Fuzz side is a classic-voiced fuzz with thick, saturated sustain and sweet-sounding, silky breakup that blooms into a wall of harmonic textures. The Octave side stacks an octave fuzz in front of the main fuzz for added harmonic complexity. Each side includes a passive Tone control that ranges from thick warmth to tight brilliance as you move the knob clockwise. Per-channel Level knobs allow you to dial in how hard the pedal hits the input of your amplifier. Each side also includes a Mids control that ranges from a mid-scooped, grungy tone to a mid-forward, full, articulate sound as you move the knob clockwise.

Why Ian Thornley calls the Thornicus his final stop
"Since very early on in my electric guitar journey, I’ve loved fuzz. We’ve been through many different Fuzzes through the years and really grew partial to several. Some of our favorite fuzz pedals simply couldn’t withstand the rigors of constant touring. When the folks at Suhr released the Rufus and the Rufus Reloaded pedals, those pretty much replaced the other fuzzes in my live rig because of their great sound and reliability. The Suhr Thornicus Fuzz has been in development for several years now and perfectly captures the DNA of all the fuzzes I’ve loved over the years, but is infinitely more flexible and versatile. If you love Fuzz the way I love Fuzz, this is the end of your search. I know it’s the end of mine!" — Ian Thornley
Suhr: the pinnacle of craftsmanship, playability, and tone
Suhr doesn't just build handcrafted, boutique-quality instruments and amplifiers — the company creates exceptional tools that fuel musical dreams and artistic passions.
