Real Cymbal Feel and Tone

Finding a place to practice is the bane of drummers everywhere; fortunately, these Meinl HCS Practice Hi-hats help solve that problem. Sweetwater drummers love how well they replicate the tone and stick feel of real cymbals from bell to edge, but at a greatly reduced volume. This doesn’t mean they’re totally mute, however; they’re made from a durable brass alloy, so you’ll be able to practice at various volume levels and get real cymbal tone and accurate feedback. Since their tone is so authentic, you can even use them for intimate gigs with a cajon or a cocktail kit. If you’d like to continue improving your drumming, and stop upsetting your neighbors, then call your Sweetwater Sales Engineer and order your Meinl HCS Practice Hi-hats today!

Meinl Cymbals 14-inch HCS Practice Hi-hats Features:

  • Feel like real cymbals: their stick response gives you accurate playing feedback
  • Sound like real cymbals: tone responds to different volumes and striking areas
  • Made from durable MS63 Brass alloy for longevity
  • Can also be used for quieter gigs

Reviews

Very subjective, but I prefer these over the Zildjian L0 hats!
Got these for a low volume kit I put together for the youth group at my church, but liked them so much, I replaced my L0s at home instead.

They're a slightly thinner material, and thus have a more crispy & airy sound compared to the L0s. They're a touch quieter, too, but barely enough to be worth mentioning...well balanced with the rest of my low-volume cymbals, and Remo Silentstroke heads, anyway.

I received these about a month and a half prior to this review. During that time I've practiced consistently but not constantly, with no appreciable difference in striking. That is to say I do not batter them but they do get hit with sticks, and should accordingly withstand a reasonable amount of force applied during their intended purpose. As of today they've begun concaving incessantly, making practice nearly impossible. I had L80s last a little over five years, they're cracked but still usable in a closed position near the ride. These are becoming problematic after not even two months, and while I am no expert I did have higher hopes for Meinl cymbals. Needless to say I'm infuriated that I wasted money investing in these and would highly discourage anyone from doing likewise.
