A fun and relaxing experience for musicians and non-musicians alike, as well as for therapeutic use and meditation, this drum delivers a range of cresting sonics, from gentle laps to crashing curls. Its unique sound comes from a durable 16-inch beechwood frame capped by a mellow-toned natural goatskin head and a brighter, clear PET head, filled with a healthy mingling of steel and plastic beads that can easily be added to or subtracted from to achieve different sounds. However, Sweetwater percussionists enjoy how this instrument can create a wide variety of non-oceanic effects, depending on how you hold and strike it. When held vertically, the wave bead drum provides a resonant bass drum tone when struck at the center and a sizzling snare sound when played at the bottom edge. Additionally, the wave bead drum makes a fantastic shaker or cabasa-adjacent piece of hand percussion.
