The Original Caribbean Bass — for This Century
If you're looking for a handmade instrument with unusual bass sounds from the islands, the Schlagwerk Marimbula could be just the ticket. The marimbula is a great example of Schlagwerk quality, and it generates sweet, spicy bass from its eight metal keys, which are tuned to an F-major pentatonic scale. But this modern version of an old-time instrument has keys that can be individually tuned to a scale from D to G, and the marimbula can be played by hand or with mallets; the latter yields clear, fresh, higher tones. And two soundholes on the front of the rounded-corner hardwood cabinet serve to accentuate the savory bass tone.

A history of beautiful instruments with exceptional tone
In their quest to make "perfect handmade instruments," Schlagwerk specializes in visually stunning and musically balanced percussion items. Since 1982, they've been hand-building gorgeous cajons, udus, tongue drums, frame drums, and other hand percussion instruments, and their outstanding aesthetic and tonal qualities have earned Schlagwerk a reputation unparalleled in the industry. The marimbula is just one of the many wonderful Schlagwerk percussion products that Sweetwater is proud to offer our customers. It features a toneful, resonant alder body with a striking ash frontside veneer that looks fantastic.
