A Refined Bassoon for the Advancing Musician
Crafted for advancing students, the Moosmann M24C features a premium Bosnian mountain maple body, a full German key system, and 25 silver-plated keys to support expressive, nuanced playing. You'll appreciate this bassoon's water-resistant design, which comprises a lined boot joint, a protected Ab tone hole, and a wing joint lining. Moreover, durable construction elements, such as brass tenon caps and sockets, cork tenons, reinforced long keys, and precision-fitted joints, ensure long-lasting reliability and reduced repair needs. Advanced keywork, including high D and E keys, a rotary whisper key lock, and a whisper key bridge mechanism for smoother A transitions, expands the M24C's range and simplifies complex passages. Additionally, nine rollers allow fluid transitions between adjacent keys, improving your technical agility. Whether you're preparing for conservatory auditions or seeking a long-term musical companion, the M24C delivers the precision, durability, and expressive range needed to meet the demands of advanced repertoire.
Exclusive water protection system
The M24C's specialized water-resistant design places it among the most durable student-level bassoons we've seen here at Sweetwater. Critical moisture-prone areas, including both sides of the boot joint and the wing joint, are fully lined to protect the wood and extend the instrument's lifespan. Even the Ab tone hole is reinforced for added reliability, ensuring consistent playability through years of use.
Lifetime-ready construction
Thanks to thoughtful construction elements, the Moosmann M24C is built for a lifetime of high-level performance with minimal maintenance. It features durable brass tenon caps and sockets, cork tenons for a secure fit, and precision-fitted joints that ensure optimal alignment and airtight sealing. Additionally, reinforced long keys add structural strength, ensuring reliable and consistent action — even during the most mechanically demanding passages.

Moosmann: traditional German-made bassoons
Following an apprenticeship with his father, Albert, Bernd Moosman purchased the Vincent Kohlert Company in the early 1980s. The Czechoslovakian instrument-making company had been producing bassoons since 1840 — bassoons widely regarded as the best available at the time — but eventually went bankrupt. Albert was the first German craftsman to work for Kohlert. Drawing inspiration from J.H. Heckel’s original designs and utilizing the skills his father taught him, Bernd Moosmann developed the Moosmann brand, specializing in bassoons and German-system clarinets. Decades later, Moosmann bassoons reign supreme thanks to the company’s many award-winning craftsmen and the care they take to ensure each Moosmann bassoon delivers consistent performance and superior quality. Sweetwater is proud to offer Moosmann’s legendary bassoons.
