Get to know them!

When it comes to woodwinds, Selmer has been a respected name for well over a century. And with that pedigree, the company has introduced an exceptional line of piccolos. The Selmer SPC411 is a perfect example. This intermediate piccolo’s hand-cut headjoint offers an easy response and a vibrant, expressive tone. The headjoint and body are crafted from Grenadite, a proprietary composite that mimics the sound qualities of wood while eliminating atmospheric issues that normally plague wooden instruments. But what’s a great-sounding piccolo without exceptional keywork? The SPC411’s hand-assembled keys feature premium springs and Pisoni pads that are carefully adjusted for a light, fluid action that responds easily to your student’s every move. This Selmer intermediate piccolo is durable, too — its rugged silver-plated keywork can withstand the rigors of daily practice and performance. The SPC411 sounds fabulous, is easy to play, and is sturdy, making it an ideal piccolo for advancing players looking to step up their game.

Hand-cut Grenadite headjoint with superior tone and durability

Brilliant piccolo tone starts with the headjoint. Selmer crafted the SPC411’s headjoint from Grenadite, a proprietary blend of six different materials, including grenadilla wood. This unique compound retains some of the acoustic characteristics of grenadilla, in turn helping players produce a richer, more full-bodied sound. And unlike wood, it’s resistant to temperature and humidity fluctuations, ensuring a long service life. What’s more, the SPC411’s headjoint is hand cut with a wave-style embouchure hole. This design provides an easy response and an even, expressive tone across all registers of the instrument.

Carefully balanced key action with incredible feel

All Selmer flutes and piccolos are manufactured and assembled to the highest specifications and tolerances. For starters, the SPC411’s beautiful keywork feels precise and fluid beneath your fingers, thanks to the premium springs. Each key and spring is carefully adjusted to ensure the piccolo plays with fast, smooth action and responds to the subtle nuances of your playing. Additionally, the Selmer piccolo’s keys are all fitted with Pisoni leather pads, which are seated firmly on the piccolo’s tone holes and contribute to the instrument’s tonal solidity and confident playability. Finally, the SPC411 is professionally set up and play-tested at the Conn-Selmer Woodwind Center in Elkhart, Indiana. After a short trip to Fort Wayne, Sweetwater’s highly skilled woodwind technicians take each piccolo through our 40-point Inspection process, ensuring you receive the best-playing instrument possible.

The Selmer legacy of quality and innovation

Conservatory-trained clarinetist Henri Selmer founded Henri Selmer Paris in 1885. Fashioning reeds and mouthpieces in his small workshop, he soon took on instrument repair and modifications, which eventually led to the design and manufacture of clarinets. In 1900, Selmer opened a retail shop in New York (the beginnings of Selmer USA). As a musician himself, Selmer understood that you cannot separate the instrument from the artist, which is why every Selmer instrument is still individually tested and certified by the company’s team of professional musicians. Delivering exceptional value at every level, from student to professional, Selmer USA and Henri Selmer Paris offer a full line of woodwind and brass instruments. Sweetwater is proud to bring you Selmer’s rich legacy of quality and innovation.
